We were her for 5 nights. The staff was helpful, the resort was fully booked when I made the reservations but they offered me to call back the day before arrival and fortunately they had a cancellation so we got the room all 5 nights.

It's a long stretched garden with on both sides different room. The place outside is so beautiful and their unique selling point: serene, a beautiful garden with nice carved wood and statues. At the reception there's free WIFI.

Based upon the website you would expect more of the room inside. We stayed in Sunset II and i found the room a bit dated. It was clean, though the sheets weren't replaced on a dailybase. Also the beachtowels weren't replaced during our stay (i would advise them to improve this!) and the normal towels only when you leave them on the floor. The cups from the coffee tea facility were not clean. The bathroom was clean though outdated, there was no shower curtain so the bathroom became very wet, just some basic soap and the toilet had some problems flushing and the bathroom became very hot after showering.

The breakfast is on a beautiful location across the beach, very basic, no variety, but ok. The beach with the private area fo the guests is perfect with a lot of palmtrees to enjoy shadow (which you need in january!) It was a frustration that the beds are taken by the other hotel guest (most often regulars who will stay there for a longer time) by putting their towel on the beds very early in the morning. I think the staff should arrange some more beds and at least do something about this bad habit.

The staff was friendly and helped us when we wanted to check out a day earlier then we booked, we made a mistake with the dates and they were very helpful. A minor was the unannounced high peak rate. The room was MYR 250 while the website says the price is MYR 220, I had a bad feeling about this because you can't find anything on the website or on site about this high peak addition of MYR 30.

I think we would book this again, because the garden and the beach and the staff, the rooms and facilities should be a bit better for this price.

Sunset Beach resort is a strange place full of contradictions. It has a great location and staff were really friendly. But the hotel itself was a big disappointment. Located at the Pantai Tengah end of Pantai Cenang (main tourist drag in Langkawi) it is set in beautiful tropical gardens and looks onto a quiet stretch of beach.
However, the room was pretty poor. Very dated, old fashioned and run down (light bulbs broken, melamine broken old cupboards and a TERRIBLE electric shower). No toileteries etc. Lots of mosquitoes and the doors don't close properly or feel at all secure. There is no safe and no room in the safety boxes for larger items ie laptops. Beds are not changed daily, beach towels not changed either. It was relatively cheap by Langkawi standards, but still vastly overpriced by Malaysian standards overall.
Breakfast was awful. Horrible burnt tasting coffee, fruit covered with flies, incredibly salty eggs cooked to order. Otherwise just toast. I'd go elsewhere to one of the cafes where you can get much, much better for less than a pound.
The private stretch of beach in front of the hotel: sun loungers all gone by 7am, and the sand in this area is dirty. Walk down onto the sand by the shore and it's much better. Next door seems to be empty (unmanned empty swimming pool which we were tempted to try!) and a much cleaner, more open area to sit and enjoy the beach. This stretch of beach is really what you're paying for. It's much quieter than the main drag of Cenang, with fewer banana boats and definitely the family friendly end. Beware jellyfish, but it's beautiful for a walk and to enjoy the sunsets.
Staff were very friendly in a laid-back way - it's not great service, but they remember you by name and are helpful when asked. No internet in rooms - only by reception.
I wouldn't stay again - there are so many basic, budget places that if that's what you're looking for I think you could get better value for money. If you want something a bit more special and the rooms/facilities are important to you, I'd look elsewhere.

we stayed for 7 nights from the 3rd of jan. the resort is a liitle gem, the staff are some of the friendliest and helpful i have met. the rooms are basic but are set in a lovely garden which is well looked after. the breakfasts were again basic but still excellent (imo if you want massive buffet choice at breakfast you need to stay at a larger more expensive hotel).the beach area was small but very picturesque, the sunsets were amazing. there was a shortage of beds sometimes, but so what, its not the end of the world, stick ya towel on the sand and jobs a gooden, we are not german and we still managed to get beds most days whan we wanted them. if you want a small, friendly, well run resort come here, if you want massive choice at breakfast, 300 beds on the beach, and unfriendly staff, go to a bigger, much more expensive resort, for me, i would choose somewhere like the sunset resort everytime.

ps, try the sun cafe, the food was amazing, especially the grilled baracuda and spinach, worth going just for that.

Very nice place, quiet and great garden surrondings.
Having private beach and beds was fantastic.
I think that the management should spend a little more time and money with repairs on some of the sun loungers and tidying up of the beach area.
Breakfast was very poor, minimal choice and orange squash is not orange juice.
The beach restaurant and bar next door actually made the stay even better, good food and service and v nice atmosphere.
Sunset staff were brilliant and helpful
Apart from the luxury resorts I imagine that Sunset is one of the best choices and could be the best bearing in mind cost and location.

The staff were very friendly at all times, rooms were too basic for my liking. They changed the linen every two days and towels every day although they will only change them if you leave them on the floor. TV only has 3 channels which are Malaysian air con, tea available. The shower was rubbish trickle of water the sinks was not any better the tap used to move when turning on. It can get noisy at night we had some disturbance on e night when a family started having a punch up amongst themselves. No security to attend at all.
The beach was amazing with clear water, however unless you are German you are not getting a sun bed, the hotel policy is rubbish allowing people to reserve beds from early morning. Some couples would reserve a bed go on a trip and come back at 3pm and take their seat because their towel was on the bed.
Some beds were even taken by locals who are NOT even staying at the hotel, yet when we complained the staff did nothing about it.
Breakfast was basic toast, cornflakes, noodles oh and a choice of eggs if you want that's it!!!
I wouldn't go back to be honest.
