Was due to arrive at the Phunawa this Thursday 26th March. Booked with Hotels.com on a non-refundable. Wasn't expecting a refund after Hotels.com said they need to contact Phunawa to see if they would agree. I work in travel and I understand the complete devastation this is causing hoteliers and airlines. Anyway, Phunawa agreed a full refund. Credit where credit is due. I will book again and definitely book Phunawa based on there response to a situation beyond anyone's control. If only everyone was like them. Thank you.

Stayed in this hotel for the 3rd or 4th time and always look forward to going back, rooms very spacious with full kitchen if you wish to eat in. The staff are very warm, friendly and very helpful with Minny, the manager extremely helpful. The resort is ideally situated a 10 minute walk to Karon beach with transport laid on to the beach and back every day as a courtesy. Well worth looking at if you plan to visit the area.

Room tip: Ask for a top floor with your own terrace and plunge pool

The highlight of this hotel was definitely the staff. Mah (I hope you see this review Mah and friends) in the restaurant, patiently tried to teach us some basic Thai and the rest of the staff were always so welcoming and helpful. My son cut his leg at the beach and the lobby staff and driver could not have done enough to get us to and from a clinic, that they suggested, for stitches. Our room was huge and always well maintained. It would have been a 5 star review if the beds had not been SO firm! We really loved our stay here and it felt like a little home away from home. Thank you, Cathy

Don't expect resort style or quick service in dinning room as there's none albeit staff try their best. It's a dated resort and if you have travelled often like we have then it's about 3 star level. Housekeeping comes quick when you phone them and are very polite and respectful.

If you are injured it can be a chore walking home after going down the road to eat (recommended)

We had a family reunion at this so called resort and had booked 4 seperate rooms
1 Emailed hotel several times to try and confirm bookings of all family members NEVER ever received reply
2 Reception did not speak very good english found cleaning staff understood more.
3 Breakfast cooked meals were always cold egg station only hot food but chefs couldnt cook eggs very well so ended cooking our own.
4 internet very poor
5 Cable tv kept cutting out at least once a day
6 Several power cuts over our 10 day stay
7 Free shuttle rusty and cut sons leg with rusty metal
8 Kept advertising bacon wrapped sausage but never ever had any
9 Room service was good and efficient
10 Loved the pool area but could do with a decent clean as had slime around edges
11 Hard beds doesnt bother me
12 Place needs refurb to bring back to former glory
I think the english barrier was the main reason for dislike of this place and they did not deliver messages left at reception when we asked for them as they did not know what message meant
WON'T RETURN TO THIS PLACE

Room tip: Probably top floor if you dont mind climbing 3 flights of stairs to you pool
