“Welcome to Euskal Herria”
Reviewed 29 September 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The Basque Country is probably not a main tourist destination which is good because the place is absolutely unspoilt and stunning. The only way to describe the area, not being disrespectful is "Switzerland by the Sea". There are mountains, forests, rivers, countryside, livestock with bells, solid Basque farmsteads , beautiful villages, markets, towns and cities that are architecturally stunning, everywhere is clean and tidy, fabulous beaches, temperature mid to late 20s, food and drink is the best in the world and lastly the people are friendly/helpful and unique. Getting there was also a wonderful experience by Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Santander, a very enjoyable 24 hours onboard the ferry. Driving on the right was ok as the roads, motorway, and the fellow drivers are good. Toll roads are fairly inexpensive and are a good way to get around for longer journeys. Be prepared to learn some Basque language, it will be appreciated.

“Cozy, comfortable cottage in the rolling hills high above the Atlantic with exceptional views”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We were very pleased with the prompt, helpful and gracious service provided by the Mote owner, Eneko. The location of this spacious cottage is ideal for travellers looking to get away from town, or wanting accommodations that make you feel "at home" (i.e. amenities, ample space for family or large group - including 3 fully equipped bathrooms, no hassle parking etc.). While the cottage itself is absolutely lovely, its location is incredible. The Mote is set high above the coastal town of Mutriku, which can be admired from the property. The views are absolutely stunning. the mote is conveniently located for exploring the coast. Excellent access to biking, hiking and cultural appreciation. It does take some "effort" to get to this piece of paradise, but Eneko made sure we could find the location, and even planned to meet us there. However, our flight was delayed and we arrived very late, so he had to leave. Despite this, we were greeted with a personal welcome note, including more information and Eneko's offer to provide us with any other assistance we needed. One of the highlights of our 3-week vacation to Europe was our wonderful time spent at the Mote and in beautiful Basque country.
