“Peace and Tranquility after a day exploring Lucca.”
Reviewed 4 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We absolutely loved our stay at Borgo della Madonnina just out of Lucca. The Stone Cottage was amazing and beautifully decorated. Adrian and Christopher made us feel extremely welcome and greeted us with a beautiful food hamper upon arrival. Adrian gave us fantastic tips on things to see and do in and around Lucca. He even made a booking for us at a local restaurant which turned out to be one of the best meals we had on our entire trip. We loved it so much we went back the next day - Daniella's pasta was amazing. We were travelling by car so did day trips to explore the region, including the old city of Lucca, Barga and Pisa. We loved nothing more than returning each day to the peaceful stonehouse set in the Tuscan Hills. Wonderful stay.

Perfect little bolt hole, nestled in the foot hills above the medieval city of Lucca. Made up of three rental accommodation properties and a main property which the owners live in.
It is fantastically positioned for exploring the area, and we visited Lucca, Pisa, Forte dei Marmi and various other little towns and villages within the Garfagnana National Park.
The property was fantastic, with a very comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen, which was useful for preparing a small lunch using the fresh local ingredients provided by the owners Adrian and Christopher.
The owners were also extremely helpful in helping us decide on places of interest to visit and more importantly which restaurants to visit to quell our appetite, one of which is approximately 200m from the properties entrance, Molin della Volpe, and it is simply fantastic!!! We ate there twice it was so good.
Hopefully we will be back, once we have tackled the other countries on our to do list.

“A gem near Lucca”

We were initially just looking for a stone cottage in a quiet area under the sun of Tuscany with a focus on good wine and dine, plenty of hikes and a bit of sightseeing. Our holiday at Borgo della Madonnina turned out to exceeds all our expectations in so many ways!

The houses are nested in the hills of the Tuscan Alps, with just a bit of seclusion, yet very convenient to wander around (Lucca is 15mn away - the sea resort is at 45mn). Our cottage is nicely decorated and thoughtfully equipped, everything: from the kitchen ustensils to the DVD selection!! Adrian and Chris are not only very friendly but also witty and helpful to help us sort out the various issues to make our stay a truly amazing experience.
We were greeted with a welcome hamper so we do not have to worry about shopping for dinner and breakfast (which includes of course a bottle of wine in the basket and one of fresh milk in the fridge).

During our stay, we had lots of pasta of all kinds, fresh vegetables, delicious ice-creams and tons of salami and ham!! We would recommend the nearby restaurant, which is again nicely decorated with friendly staff and excellent food (Molin della Volpe).

We also loved the runs we had some mornings on the city walls of Lucca, we felt we were somehow just part of the local crowd.
We had many lovely hikes especially from Fornovolasco, Pitigliono and Vico Pancellorum. Now we are still debating whether Barga and Pistoia is the most beautiful medieval village of the Garfagnana!!!

We are now fully recharged and looking forward to go back.

This is THE place if you want to get away from it all , yet have access to Northern Tuscany's places of interest, sleep soundly, be surrounded by nature and have friendly hosts within easy access.
