Dear Ksenia,
Thank you for the review and kinds words, we are delighted that you loved our place. It is always nice when guests say such good things about Villa Alla Marginetta, it was a labour of love to restore the Villa but so worth it. We are also thrilled that you have already booked for next year, I do hope they have good musicians again. We look forward to welcoming you again.

“Unbelievable Luxurious Villa ”

We have just had a vacation of a lifetime in this villa. The place is huge and sits on tons of land. We were able to collect wood from their private forest and burn in the open fire, almost every night we sat outside chatting and cooking marshmallows.
As for the villa it is so big and it had everything we needed. There is even a bar on the lower level and a billiard table. The owner sends an email with attachment on where everything is and all the good restaurants, so that is very helpful. The management company Lucca Property Services was wonderful and the owner of LPS Gina was there for us.
Best vacation rental we have ever stayed in.

Dear Meghan,
Thank you for taking the time to review Villa Alla Marginetta. It is wonderful that you enjoyed your vacation so much. The open fire is always a big hit with guests, even our family spend most our holiday sitting around the fire. We appreciate that you made good suggestions to help improve our welcome pack, we will add those restaurants. I am grateful as this will help future guests enjoy their holiday experience. You were great guests to have and we thank you for treating the villa with such respect.

As you have already emailed me looking to come back next year, we give a 15% discount to guests who return. So please come again.

Kind Regards
Cathal, Villa Alla Marginetta

“A lovely house in a very peaceful and beautiful location”
Reviewed 6 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

My family of university-age kids spent a fantastic week at Villa Alla Marginetta. The house is very spacious with five generous-sized bedrooms all lovely enough to avoid any fighting over rooms. That said, my wife and I bagged the best room with both en-suite bathroom and a private balcony where we could take our morning coffee undisturbed. The communal area on the ground floor hosts a kitchen, dinning area and living area with TV (perfect for watching late night re-runs of "Sex in the City" apparently). In the basement there is a utility room with a washing machine (not discovered by some of the family until we were leaving) and a pool room (which was well found). The house is an old converted stone-built farm house. In August, this means it is cool during the day and warm at night. It also means that the downstairs communal area is quite dark, especially after coming in from the bright sunlight. It would be lovely to have large windows looking out on to the gorgeous wooded valley outside. That's about the only thing keeping the house off my dream Tuscan shopping list.

Outside is a large garden with a large swimming pool, high-quality pool furniture and two excellent dinning areas. The garden isn't a gardener's garden, but it makes up for this somewhat with its feeling of openness and by the location of the house in a spectacular and quiet valley - the only sounds we heard were the murmur of the river below and the splash of the small nearby waterfall. And the local cycle club passing by on their morning ride.

The house is slightly remote, but not enough to be a problem provided you are reasonably confident driving on the narrow, winding mountain roads that reach it. The drives around the house (and rides - bring bikes!) are spectacular - this really is a gorgeous area of Italy. It's worth exploring the local villages, just to get a sense of their remoteness and how they are unchanged by modern global living. (This is a very rustic part of Tuscany, no grand houses or extravagant churches.) We ate at random in several local restaurants and they were all excellent (and, as usual, the hosts extremely friendly and accomodating of vegans/vegetarians). You could happily spend a whole holiday just hanging out at the house, wandering around the valley and making the odd trip in to one of the local towns for a bit of excitement.

If you are more in need of tourism or shopping Lucca is about a 50 minute drive and Pisa 1hr 20. If you haven't visited before, Lucca is a gem of a city and don't be put off by the image of Pisa as a tourist trap. Both are beautiful towns with masses to see and do and, given their beauty and history, astonishingly un-touristlike feeling (apart from maybe a 30m radius around the leaning tower.).

We were left alone for the week with no attempt to help (or hassle us). Not that we needed anything. But if you expect daily solicitous advice from the owners or long chats with the neighbours, not here: like I said remote and peaceful.

“A slice of heaven”
Reviewed 14 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

A wonderfully comfortable villa, with high-quality furnishings and fittings (especially those bathrooms!!). The villa has everything you need and more. We had a fabulous stay, totally secluded and private with stunning mountain views. The pool was voted the best we've ever had - sunshine all day but shady areas such as the chair swing and gazebo when you need them. The pool is the same depth - about 1.4m - throughout which made it perfect in my opinion.
Gina, the property manager, is an angel of helpfulness, only a text away and couldn't do enough to help us!
