The house is the last but one in an extremely narrow lane where you can drive in to load and unload your car (for constant parking it is advisable to use l’Avenue Jean Jaurés.) The exterior is all but promising, especially as its neighboring building is presently a ruin. But you forget about outside once you enter the gite. Several reasons make it more than comfortable: its proximity to one of the nicest villages in Burgundy and all its amenities (bakeries, a little supermarket, butcher, bars and restaurants are reachable within a 1 to 5 minute walk), its tasteful interior combining old and new elements and its absolute tranquility.
The kitchen is small, but with its gas hob and electro oven (great!) in combination with a big fridge perfectly managable.
The walk-in rainforest shower is just adorable and unexpectedly large as is the whole daylight bathroom right beside the living room/kitchen.
Our party of 4 (3 adults and 1 adolescent) could perfectly split up in 2 sleeping upstairs, 2 downstairs. Adjacent to the charming double bedroom downstairs is a narrow single bedroom without direct daylight we used as a dressing room which was perfect: thus we could put the mobile wardrobe (the big wardrobe you see on the photo is locked) in there and thus fully enjoy the nice interior.
A few points of critique should be noted, too: it would be helpful to find some basic information about the house, i.e. where to put the garbage and when, how to use the dishwasher etc. (reading user manuals of electric appliances might not be everybody’s hobby). However, the only real challenge of our stay was the communication preceding the booking: some knowledge of French is necessary. And: different to the website information on abritel.fr, fewo-direkt.de and holidaylettings.uk the log fire is NOT usable.
The plus: the bottle of Chablis from the owners (vintners themselves) was a real treat.
Everything considered, we would not hesitate to return for a future stay at this serene place next to the romantique (river) Serein which divides the Cotés Chablis (wine) – and if it were for a wine tasting only.
