“Great holiday - Great value.”
Reviewed 14 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We thoroughly enjoyed three weeks at Colombine. Having our 16 month old grand-daughter with us, we knew we would be spending much of our time at the accommodation so chose our place to stay with care. We were not disappointed. We have stayed in a number of lovely gites in the area over the past 20 years but cannot recall a place so well equipped and user friendly. The photographs, inviting though they are, hardly do it justice. It is spacious, clean and well designed. All the bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds, good storage with plenty of hangers and each is equipped with a large electric fan. The generous bathroom is supplemented by a good shower room. Oodles of hot water meant no problems operating both showers at the same time. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a new Smeg cooker, large fridge with freezer over and all the appliances one could reasonably expect. We were, perhaps, a little surprised not to be offered any change of bedding or towels during our 3 week stay but an efficient washing machine is on hand and the hot weather meant almost instant drying. The lounge is comfortable and benefits from Sky TV. The pool is not particularly large but perfectly adequate and a natural focus during our stay with temperatures often in the mid 30's C. Upon arrival we found that the barbecue was unstable and unusable but a quick mention to Dave and it was replaced immediately with a much better Weber barbecue which we proceeded to made good use of. Having Dave on hand was a bonus. I can only think of one thing that would improve the experience and that is the provision of a parasol or two (owner has already responded positively to the suggestion) that could be positioned at the edge of the pool, as there is no shade immediately adjacent to the pool in the afternoons (a lovely vanilla tree provides ample shade in the mornings). In really hot afternoon sun one is forced to retreat to the dense shade of the terrace. Otherwise.....perfection! The local small supermarket just outside Duras is good so there is really no need to go any further. We enjoyed the privacy that the accommodation provided and the good weather meant we could make the best possible use the place and grounds. Apart from that, we had a really good steak at La Terrace opposite the chateau at Duras and the pizzas at the pizzeria in Eymet take some beating. The "Cave" next door to the pizzeria, run by an Irish lady, provides an excellent choice of recommendable wines at all prices. Tip - Tuesday evening, get to Eymet for 6.30pm grab a table under the cloisters at the pizzeria before it gets too busy and "people watch" from there as the night market gets underway. At the end of the holiday - go home and start the diet!

“Total bliss”
Reviewed 7 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We have rented a fair few gites in France but this one gets my vote. Quiet, peaceful, private and beautiful. We had family with us, including our baby grandson and friends from Canada joined us for the second week. We all adored the place.
Our dog went missing on our second day. We were beside ourselves. Chris, who looks after the place, was brilliant...advising on useful web sites and alerting to neigbours in the local area. Thankfully Welly, the dog, eventually Found his way back.
Back to the gite.... My husband and I are looking for a place to buy in France and had earmarked a proprty but, having stayed at this gite we have decided to begin our search again using Columbine as a benchmark. Pure perfection!

From reading all the previous reviews we realise that everyone has different priorities & expectations from a holiday home, we can only comment on ours.
The house is beautifully situated, well furnished, comfortable, and well equipped. The beds comfortable, nice linen etc. Dish washer, washer and microwave all fine. However the oven was very dirty and old, the age doesnt matter too much if it is clean, we are told it is to be replaced soon, we only used it once. Good wi-fi, and TV reception, if this is important. The pool excellent, well maintained with easy access. The shaded outside dining area is lovely particularly as we were lucky enough to have wall to wall sunshine for two weeks- 30/08 -13/09, many shaded areas within the garden too.
There is a very open feeling to the grounds, but the whole large area is shared with the owners house, however it is fairly private. If it is important to anyone, the area is not fenced in at all.
We did feel that in the matter of cleanliness, the house could use a little more TLC . We have spoken to the owner with regard to this.

Dave & Chris were very helpful with a couple of specific matters.

If there is something we would like to see & that is some "fly netting" on one window in each bedroom, we were lucky with the heat, and to have a window open at night would have been good.

We have visited this area many times & would not hesitate to return to Colombine or recommend it to others.

Management Response
22 Sep 2014
We welcome all feedback and as a result have replaced the oven and dealt with the other comments received.
In relation to the gardens, we would just like to clarify that although the grounds are shared with our house, this is only occupied for about 4 weeks a year so the rest of the time guests have sole use of the approximately 16 acres.
