We booked Valhalla for a family party locally and it was absolutely perfect. The facilities in the house were great, the kitchen is well-equipped and the rooms very comfortable. We were lucky to have beautiful weather and the garden was ideal.
Omg this house is beautiful. Very warm and cosy and everything you could imagine was there and probably more. Loved sitting in the kitchen round the table with patio door open for the dog to wander in and out. Really lovely at night with the wood burning fire on, as we had a day with snow, only in Scotland do we get four seasons in one day. Would highly recommend this home. Was great for meeting up with family who stay in Helmsdale also. .x
Spent a lovely weekend in Helmsdale to celebrate my Mum's 80th birthday in the village where our Dad was born and stayed in Valhalla with family - 7 of us! Superb accommodation that could not be faulted. Really homely, a house that is obviously well loved by its owners. Spotlessly clean with everything you could need. Spent most of our time around the kitchen table- chatting, eating, drinking, playing cards. Fabby beds- my sister who is normally up with the lark slept until 11am (but maybe that was the vodkas in the Belgrave Hotel the night before).
Thoroughly recommend this holiday home
We've been coming to Helmsdale for 30+years and have stayed at Valhalla several times since the owners started their self-catering business.
The house itself is spotless and very homely and is able to cater easily for groups and families alike. The large kitchen/dining area is very well appointed and we have spent many an evening socialising around the table. Although the house is centrally heated, for those colder days and nights there is a wood burner in the lounge which quickly provides extra warmth.
All the bedrooms are well laid out and the beds are very comfortable.
Helmsdale is a great little town with a lot of history - checkout Timespan which is an excellent start point and describes local life through the centuries - and also a good base for exploring the local area.
A drive up the Strath of Kildonan on nice day for a picnic at Baile-An-Or gold panning is also worth it as is a drive up the coast to the Whaligoe steps where, after having descended the 330 steps, you can see the old harbour !
There are also plenty of walks and running trails for the more energetic.
I would thoroughly recommend Valhalla to anyone who is looking for a break in one of the best areas in the UK
We are a fishing party who have been attending the opening week of the River Helmsdale for many years. We originally stayed at the Bridge Hotel, but it closed a few years back. We searched for ages to find alternative accomodatation, and finally found this excellent holiday home located perfectly just behind the main street in Helmsdale right in the middle of the town. The location is perfect for the shops, and both local pubs, all within a 2 minute walk of the front door. The river is also located within 500 yards.
The accomodation is to a very high standard, and spotless in every room. The house is fully equiped with every item you can think of or may have forgotten to take. It is a large house and would easily sleep 8 over the 4 bedrooms. On arrival the house was fully heated in all rooms, and prepared to a high standard. There is both upstairs and downstairs toilets/shower rooms, making it very comfortable and giving us space and privacy. There is an excellent sized garden (although not used by ourselves in January due to a foot of snow). There is off street parking at the side of the house, and access direct to the kitchen from the rear, making it ideal when getting ready for a January days fishing.
We have just returned from our 3rd January visit to Valhalla which gets better every year. We are already looking forward to next years visit.
We find it exceptional value for money and the real "Home from Home".
