If you want to see what this hotel looked like in 1975.....go and stay there.

No heating in the room, no shower, no carpet, no nothing. bare bones. The owner was slowly doing a refurb. No good to me at the time. if you charge you need to be able to supply. Decent grub though.

Do not make the mistake of staying in this run down slum. My bathroom had no windows but was windy inside!! freezing cold, everything shabby and old, fag burns on the side of the bath..No shower. When asked what time we would like breakfast ( which i paid for four people in advance) was told it was too early so we would have to have the ''Continental'' which consisted of a small jug of milk, a loaf of bread and 5 sachets of jam!

Room Tip: Don't bother

My now wife and I stopped and asked for a room for the night 25 years ago at this establishment. The wallpaper was stuck to the walls with blue tac, the bath filled with peat water, the bar carpet stuck to your feet, the taxidermy was in a state of advanced decomposition, the bar man was a stand in for Catweasle and recited more expletives in 5 minutes than I have ever heard in my life, the landlord and his wife created an ambiance that suggested, total compliance to the way they ran the place would be well advised. The evening meal was fantastic, the Breakfast was more fantastic. What a night we had, we still have,nt stopped laughing about it.
If the landlord and his wife are still about, we thank you for an experience never to be forgotten, and we wish you well.

Room was fresh, clean, comfortable with flat screen TV and en-suite. The price was exceptionally reasonable for what you pay for. We had a family room and it was really spacious. Great view out over the bridge and the river. The food was great - never sen a plate of Langoustines like it! My wife and kids had the classic Bridge Burger and we both said it was so nice to not get frozen chips and burgers but proper home made ones. Simple menu, but all the food we saw was proper pub grub cooked well and you could tell it was cooked to order because asking for changes to what was offered on the menu wasn't a problem and kids can have half portions of real meals not just the typical fish fingers or sausages. Staff were welcoming and happy to help us plan activities, service was pretty prompt even when busy.
The selection of whisky in the bar is really impressive. Having a dram by the fire was a great way to end our days out and they even organised a babysitter.

Room Tip: Ask for one to the front of the hotel to get the views over the Kyle.
