This marvelous place of steep mountainous rocks with monasteries is breathtaking. Worth the trip. Take a guided tour 4 hours with explanations. It adds to the experience

Amazing geography, and stunning to realize how painstaking it would be to build these buildings in this location.

Fascinating place with amazing nature and well-preserved living monastery, surely worth to visit. I recommend to come here on your own by a car to have enough time to explore the place and take pictures.

You can drive very close to each monastery, park and then walk up and down the stairs to enter them. There are a lot of stairs for some, but for some not so many. My friends and I thought it was not that difficult to climb them as we were told it would be. Out of six monasteries, we saw four.

We arrived at the site around noon, and were surprised that it wasn't that hot. Mountain air is definitely cooler than air at the seaside.

It took us about four and half hours to visit four monasteries.

We realized that each monastery is closed on a different day (two are closed on Friday) between April 1 and October 31. So, regardless of when you arrive (unless it is Saturday or Sunday), you will not be able to enter one of them. My guess is that it is very crowded here on weekends, so I don't think I would have picked weekend for visiting this site anyhow. Monasteries are open until 15:30, 16:00, 17:00 and 17:30. One of them is closed between 13:30 and 15:30 on visiting days.

Monasteries are beautiful, but the feel was kind of touristy. They also seemed quite new or recently renovated. However, the biggest, and we heard the most beautiful, of them all was closed on the day we visited... Nature in this area is absolutely stunning.
