Might be best option for the area

Review of Meteora Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Oct 2023
Not sure but this might be best hotel option if you are visiting this fascinating place. There are downsides that include minimal service, in-room phones that don't work, a cavernous, noisy dining room.
As to dinner, the food is good but the room is huge and occupied by big tour groups - noisy!

Hotel room had a wonderful view of the rocks from the terrace. Air conditioning was not working adequately. WiFi was insufficient to search the net let alone stream a movie. Breakfast was very poor with the wide selection of baked goods all being dried out and not appetizing.
The pool temperature was perfect for the ambient air temperature.

Room tip: Break up your drive from Athens to Meteora with a stop at Delphi which closes at 8 PM. On the way back to Athens, stop at Thermopyles.

A below average experience, hotel is starting to show its age and could do with some refurbishment, breakfast choice was ok but they were slow to clear tables making the place feel a bit messy. Not good value for €150 per night, I expect there are better alternatives in the area.

The location was second to none. We had a view room and the view was amazing. However, the hotel seems to rely on this and the rest was lacking. 3cm thick mattresses on top of the base. The aircon didn’t work the first night as we had it on ‘cool’ when apparently it should be on ‘heat’ to cool but there was no information anywhere about this! So our first nights sleep was hot and horrible as we arrived late and went straight to bed. The breakfast was terrible!!! The eggs were all over cooked and choices crap for those from outside Europe who don’t eat cake or salad for breakfast.

Room tip: Views from hotel amazing but the rest is not a 4 star experience. 2-3 star hotel with 5 star view.

Great hotel, spacious rooms and we loved the view. This hotel is rather isolated and only accessible with a car (which we didn’t have). We arrived back late (9.30) on our first night after having a sunset tour and were told we were unable to be served any food until a large tour group had been served. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go elsewhere to eat and went to bed hungry.

Room tip: Best appreciated with a car

What a disappointing stay, we checked out after one night rather than stay for the two we had booked. This has place has so much potential but fails to deliver. It is clearly understaffed and does not prioritise customer service.

The good bits were that the room was clean and spacious and with a layout that works well for families. Some of the lamps weren’t working and the shower head did not sit in it’s holder.

The pool area was very crowded and there were no sun beds available. No towels are provided which is unusual for a hotel that claims to be 4*, fortunately we had some but other guests we spoke to didn’t. The water in the pool was cloudy and greenish in colour, my children were unable to see underwater despite wearing goggles. Shrubbery was overgrown.

After making a dinner reservation and being asked which table we would like, we arrived at dinner to discover our table had been given to another party and we were stuck behind a bush where we were unable to see the spectacular Meterora. Staff did rectify this by moving our table to another position.

Dinner was very poor. With 3 of the 4 dishes either over or undercooked. Service was also poor with no-one asking how the food was even when clearing full plates. When complaining about the food at checkout we were told no plates had been returned uneaten. They did reluctantly remove the cost of the worst of the dishes from our bill. We had intended to complain the previous evening but there was no-one available at the 24hr reception.

Breakfast was considerably better but would benefit from more fresh fruit.

An expensive mistake but we don’t regret seeing the Meteroa. Wish we had opted for the Philoxenia.

Room tip: I would avoid this hotel
