“Tranquil mini-break”
Reviewed 12 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We stayed in Rouge at Moulin de Malecoste for a beautifully sunny weekend in Sept. The scenery was stunning and we visited nearby tourist sites and small village markets. The children had a great time on the swing and getting muddy in the stream. Rouge was very comfortable and we didn't want for anything. A home away from home……. but prettier!

“Brilliant house set in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 29 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We spent two weeks here, one on our own and one with extended family.

The house is just as you see it in the literature - really well presented, elegant , clean, spacious and comfortable. Being old, it was cool even in very hot weather. The manager was absolutely brilliant. She was English - speaking and was in regular contact with us. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

The surrounding area is quiet, rural and very pretty. No massive fields here stretching for miles. Small farms, growing walnuts and rearing cows, predominate.

There are lots of pretty market villages and towns, river swimming and good restaurants and cafes nearby.

We enjoyed walking, cycling, canoeing and, sometimes, just reaxing in the lovely garden. We arived home, thoroughly relaxed, planning when we would return.

Liked best: The lovely house set in an area of quiet beauty and serenity.
Liked least: The dishwasher was a bit small and difficult to stack.

We had a wonderful holiday with the kids. the gite was beautiful and had everything we needed. The children loved playing on the swing and in the garden, and we travelled to nearby villages, the dinosaur park, the monkey park, to entertain them. there was lots to do!

“Brilliant luxe family holiday in the Dordogne Valley”
Reviewed 19 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

The rustic-chic charm of Le Moulin de Malecoste means one is hard-pressed to leave. Rambling roses climb the stone walls of the converted barn, wisteria clings to the heavy wooden door frame and the sound of the water stream running through the centuries-old mill drowns out any possible sound of civilisation.
We stayed in Rouge - the biggest of three gites, simply entitled Rouge, Blanc and Bleu. No (luxurious) detail was forgotten at Rouge, from the full French-style kitchen from which to prepare the many gourmet foodie finds we stumbled across in the neighbouring villages, to the torches and umbrellas left out should we experience anything from a power outage to a shower, to the gas Weber outside for barbecues and dining al fresco.
With two beautifully-appointed bedrooms, three bathrooms and a lounge (with satellite TV), we were spoilt for choice. Our children adored being in a bedroom almost up in the roof!
Nestled in the Dordogne valley, neatly placed between the villages of Martel, Cazillac and L'hopital St Jean, our stay at Le Moulin de Malecoste was simply glorious. And what we particularly loved was that it was as enjoyable staying in and enjoying the garden and our home base, as it was exploring the surrounding Medieval villages and rolling countryside.
We visited many festivals and food markets during our stay and with the Dordogne River being only a 15-minute drive away, spent many happy days swimming, canoeing, kayaking and fishing too.
