We went to the park first, which is lovely and a nice place to escape from urbanism. then we wandered more around the neighborhood. cute shops and restaurants all around. great to see the variety of people!

Any tourists will most likely visit Ueno in Tokyo. I would summarise 3 main reasons:

1. Ueno is a major transport access point, connecting many metro lines, JR Yamanote line, as well as connecting to airport.

2. Ueno park is popular amongst the locals to have their picnics. It also attract many tourists visiting this park, nearby zoo and museums.

3. Just across Ueno Station is Ameyoko Shopping Street, a busy market and shopping street crowded with tourists and locals alike. There are also many restaurants and eateries in the surrounding area. Prices are reasonable here.

Do include Ueno in your itinerary whenever you visit Tokyo.

we stralled here through the streets on our way to the Ueno Park and enjoyed what we saw. its like offers the same sort of shops / cafes & bars / restaurants as other areas but with less tourists and more locals. something I always appreciate on my travels.

We loved this neighbourhood. If we lived in Tokyo, this is where we would be. Beautiful parks, shops, playgrounds, restaurants. Much less overwhelming than Shinjuku or Shibuya. A great place to wander without any real destinations.

I loved Ueno! From the station, head to the park as there are often buskers on the path which makes the atmosphere amazing. There are many shrines and temples here too so exploring the intricacies of those is a great way to start an afternoon.

I highly recommend heading to Ameyoko afterwards, which is right next to the station, as it is a long street market filled with fresh food, restaurants, clothing stores and more. I've been to Japan twice now and both times I've come here for the Takoyaki. There is a store, about halfway down, selling delicious Takoyaki, with six being only 300 yen! Make sure you check it out.
