We loved this neighbourhood. If we lived in Tokyo, this is where we would be. Beautiful parks, shops, playgrounds, restaurants. Much less overwhelming than Shinjuku or Shibuya. A great place to wander without any real destinations.

I loved Ueno! From the station, head to the park as there are often buskers on the path which makes the atmosphere amazing. There are many shrines and temples here too so exploring the intricacies of those is a great way to start an afternoon.

I highly recommend heading to Ameyoko afterwards, which is right next to the station, as it is a long street market filled with fresh food, restaurants, clothing stores and more. I've been to Japan twice now and both times I've come here for the Takoyaki. There is a store, about halfway down, selling delicious Takoyaki, with six being only 300 yen! Make sure you check it out.

Very lively and great for dinning and budget shopping. Sakura at Ueno park is a must! The place was crowded but still worth the visit, you can really find whatever you need in Ueno!

It's not quiet per se, but it felt more laid back when compared to other areas, like Shinjuku and Shibuya. The park is great, lots of shopping and museums in the area and it's close to both Asakusa and Akihabara, which are very nice places as well.

I love the area. It is truly "shitamachi" = downtown area. It has a mixture of the old Edo and the new Tokyo. Lots of shopping to do and the zoo and temples and zillions of delicious eating places. You just can't go wrong visiting this area of Tokyo.
