This is not your cheapest option in Tokyo (but having said that not your most expensive either I guess). But the rooms are really small. It took us forever to check in, as we first got a smoking room, without asking for that. There is no wifi in your room, only in the lobby which is terribly slow. And then there is a sign requesting you not to use the internet too long (..?...). Come on people, this is high-tech Japan and it's 2012.

We chose this hotel partly to make use of the gym. But as a guest you are kindly asked to pay an additional equiv. 25USD per session, per person. Nice surprise.

stayed here for 3 nights (25-28Aug), in a Standard Semi Double 17 Sq.Meters, and had a thoroughly comfortable stay. 17 sq metres sounds awfully small, but its actually pretty ok for 2 asian women.

the best part about this hotel is the location; it is literally across the street from ikebukuro station. took the airport limousine from airport which drops u right at the doorstep of the hotel, (tip: do NOT take this limo bus during in the evenings, it took me 2.5hrs from narita airport. take the train instead!)

service was great, the porter (a girl!) brought us up to our room after check in. front desk staff speak excellent english and were extremely helpful. there's also a desk at the check in counter where the duty manager sits, and he can help u with ANYTHING (checking shinkansen timings, directions to places of attractions, etc)

room and toilet was clean, air con was strong. room was cleaned everyday, and they gave fresh towels everytime. no complaints abt the room whatsoever.

only downside is the lack of free wifi in the room. i tried everyday to ask for the wifi router but its the same story everyday: they had run out cos its given out n first come first serve basis. but they did tell us that they are in the midst of installing wifi access in all the rooms. once they do that, this hotel will be perfect. i had to sit in the lobby every night to use their free wifi there.

one more great thing: the hotel is a 7-10 min walk away from one of the best ramen restaurants in tokyo: mutekiya ramen. there's also a doutor coffee and a konbini (family mart?) right outside the hotel, good for breakfast. not forgetting the plethora of eateries around ikebukuro station.

paid S$613.48 for 3 nights (via hotelclub.com) , and i think it's really value for money for a hotel in a great location

I stayed at a couple of hotels in Tokyo b4 which were pretty decent. This time round, a friend highly recommended Hotel Metropolitan esp for it's location! So we booked 2 nites at Hotel Metropolitan. This is my first night.

It is disappointing! Perhaps it was an expectation thingy. Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo is ranked No. 2 in Toshima/Ikebukuro and had many raving reviews! i think that made me expected more like other more established hotels that we stayed in. Can't help but think that the rating is over-rated. I guess if i had been warned that it's more like a 3+-star hotel, my expectation would not be so high. And for the price that we paid which wasn't cheap, i felt disappointed.

The lobby was huge. But the rooms are small. The size seems pretty standard but the bed is small. i booked for 2 adults and only a double bed was available. At the Reception, the Front Desk guy warned that the room is quite small. And asked if we would like to upgrade. He showed us some pic which are similar to those we saw on the website. When we enquired further, he then said no deluxe rooms are available. Only suite is available! Of cos we didn't have the quantum leap to upgrade to suite.

The furnishing have been around for some time, rather used but clean & decent. The shower had a new tap with nice warm water for bath which was great. The toilet basin has the old faucet of separate hot and cold water. The kettle is branded and in good condition w/o rust.

No free wi-fi in room but has wired computer access. There is free wi-fi in the lobby but the signal is not strong. e.g., photos could not be sent over via WhatsApps. Yes and when we asked to borrow the wi-fi router for the room, it is no longer available due to limited quantity.

We arrived late and ate here, food was good as was the service.
Asked as it was fairly blate on a Saturday night where we should avoid if we went for a walk, was informed that we would be safe and we were.
Even the drunks were happy and polite.
Walking distance from the station, boy, you have to visit that station...immaculate.
Breakfast in the room next morning which was soooooooo relaxing prior to a day sight seeing.
Staff supplied a pile of info and could not have bee more helpful.

Room Tip: Do not be afraid to ask for help, it is there by the wagon load especially on where to eat.
