Went there for some pre-dinner drinks. We have always been wanting to come to this hotel and bar since it was opened in 1994 as it’s one of the first top floor hotels in the world.

The entrance wasn’t very easy to find if you went to the lobby of the building first (it’s part of the office building) but we found it at the end (Servicewise I do think it’s much better at Mandarin Oriental because someone actually takes you to the elevator instead of just pointing it).

The bar has a very comprehensive wine list (lacks of the local sake and plum wines tho) shame I only drink cocktails. The view was great but the whole bar is smoking only so if you are a non-smoker you wouldn’t want to go there otherwise you will be soaked in second hand smoke.

I have to say when we first arrived (around 7pm) we were taken to the bar by the hostess, she asks if we were the guest of the hotel and we said no then she gave us a look and rolled her eyes. Well, I don’t know what’s the service like at the hotel side but if this is the service we get in the bar then I won’t be staying at the hotel for sure! Since we were not the guests of the hotel we “couldn’t” sit by the window side and that was a put off.

Also another thing was the cover charge. In my impression if you get into the bar before they start charging cover charges then you are exempt as you arrived earlier, but not in this bar. If you stay after 8pm a ¥2,200 per person cover charge will be added to your bill regardless what time you have arrived. It was an experience I wouldn’t want to go back to, the view from the bar might be nice but the service is bad enough to put us off.

We arrived at the New York Bar on Monday night our first night in Tokyo. It was not crowded and there were many Japanese there ( a nice surprise since we suspected it would be all Americans).
The view is absolutely outstanding. The jazz combo was fantastic!! There was a 2200 YEN cover charge but it was worth it. Drinks were 1600-2000 YEN (you could pay the same at a high end club in New York so we weren't that surprised) and the atmosphere was so romantic and elegant.
We were a bit "touristy" and took photos. The crowd was cool but tolerant of our "oohs and ahhs". Be aware there is a strict dress code!! No shorts or open toes (for men). But they didn't go as far as requiring jackets. The hotel did offer to provide long pants for a member of our party who was a VERY tall american (and they fit perfectly!)

... You should visit this place if you live in / visit Tokyo. Went there recently with a date and had a great time. The venue was relaxing (though the band hampered conversation when they were playing). The staff were friendly, professional and courteous and the view at night was breath taking. Expensive? Yes. But such an experience is priceless.

Little value in the food and service quality- there is much better choice and cuisine in Tokyo for less money.

My husband and I have just spent four wonderful days in Tokyo. For our last evening we met four friends for dinner at the New York Bar and Grill at the Park-Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku.

The food and service was excellent and I would rate it as among the top three in the world. Expensive, yes but since we can afford it, it was not to questioned.

After dinner, we went into the lounge to see and hear the wonderful Jazz that we enjoyed during our meal. We only intended to have one drink, but stayed and listened to one of the best entertainers I have heard in a very long time. Shelley Fisher, a Black guy from Las Vegas, accompanied by a Trio (Piano, Bass & Drums) performed with perfection, the music of Nat "King" Cole and others. When he sang "Wonderful World" you could hear a pin drop. Perfect entertainment in a perfect setting. A wonderful finish to a perfect evening!
