“Pleasant Stay in Tokyo”
Reviewed 9 June 2018 for a stay in June 2018

Mr.Chong has a nice apartment located close to Kamata train station, many places to eat and shop just outside the apartment building. As stated, this place has views of Mt Fuji (on a clear day), which was the deciding factor for where we wanted to stay. We were a family of 3, my husband and I and our 18 yr old son. Anymore than 3 adults may feel a bit cramped, but doable. We used our place as "home base" for exploring Tokyo and other daytrips by train to Kyoto, Mt Fuji, and Fukushima. The Kamata station is less than 5 min walk, 10min train to Shinagawa Station connects to multiple train line options. We purchased our JR passes prior to arrival (must be done before) and used them extensively. As for the apartment, as stated, use for light cooking- there's a small refrigerator, microwave, and hot water pitcher/heater. No coffee maker or French press, which was fine, we just purchased to go iced coffees at the grocery store right by the train station, VERY convenient. However missed having my first of the morning hot coffee routine. Plenty of bowls/glasses/utensils to use. One bedroom has a double/queen bed, firm mattress and the pillows were small and filled with the material used in bean bag chairs- everyone has different preferences, so if you need something bigger/fluffier helps to be aware. The second bedroom had a twin floor mattress, also firm. We were so tired at the end of the day these didn't bother us. Small closets, hangers, cabinet space is limited for storage of luggage etc- however, this is the norm for places in Tokyo. The best part of our stay was the easy accessibility via texting app with the owner. He was very helpful with providing excellent checkin directions, pictures included of the area/building etc. Pictures and directions for all the appliances etc. of note, we took a taxi from Haneda airport and provided the physical address to which the taxi driver had difficulty finding. We used google translator a lot to communicate, solution was to provide the name of the building, and not get out until we knew we were there! A few "good to know" tips, there's a wall unit looks like a thermostat to the entry of the kitchen it's marked "sink heater" I believe... it actually adjusts the temp for the water in the whole apartment, including the shower. So when our son erroneously thought he was turning down the air... he actually turned off the hot water... one cold shower later- I figured out what happened! We did have an unfortunate hiccup, the apartment unit itself lost power on Friday at 11a, and couldn't be restored until Monday at 8p. The toilets and water all depend on electric. Rather than focus on this inconvenience (which I believe is a once and never again situation) I'd like to focus on how excellent Mr.Chong was in making it right. He reserved/paid for 2 rooms for us at a nearby hotel for the nights that were affected. This gave us some comparison of hotels vs apartments, definitely prefer the apartment for added space and convenience. The bathrooms in the hotels are cruise-ship sized bathrooms. The apartment definitely had more bathroom space with the toilet in a separate space. Of note, the ceilings are low in the shower, not an issue for our 5ft 2in-5ft 8in family, but may be uncomfortable for anyone 6ft +. Due to being out of the apartment for 3 of our 7 nights, we didn't use the washing machine, tv, or pocket wifi, however they appear to be in good condition. One of the two fans provided didn't work. We had cell phone service via Sprint, so we didn't use the pocket wifi. Highly encourage having international cell service or access to wifi as we used it ALOT to navigate. This could be an issue from arrival to airport to the apartment to then get the use of the pocket wifi. The apartment building has a few storage bins to store luggage short term only one bin that fits a full size suitcase and a few backpack or carry on size units. The train station has options for luggage storage approx $6 for the largest size. The apartment was clean and quiet, we didn't see any other residents in our coming and going. Limited number of towels available, no washcloths- that would be a great addition. There's a lot of construction going on in Tokyo due to the upcoming 2020 Olympics, this includes some buildings near the apartment. Some construction noise during the day, but typically starts after 8a. Also, trains run until midnight, resume around 6a, due to proximity to train station there is some train noise- none of which bothered us at all, but worthy to note. Overall, we had a wonderful trip to Tokyo, we were very pleased with our stay, and recommend this apartment and owner to any future guests!

“Kamata Apartments ”

Our family enjoyed our Kamata stay. I was worried it was too far from the tourist sites but the train to shinagawa and the yamamote line makes getting around easy. The apartment is clean and warm and the local area has great eating and drinking options. A great first trip to Tokyo!

“Real Tokyo life”

The host is very accommodating and responsive. The apartment is located near a very convenient area where you can easily find restaurant, grocery, and public transportation. You can also experience how working class Japanese live by taking metro during rush hour, and enjoying a sake in a nearby izakaya at night. The room itself is clean and has everything you need day-to-day. I would recommend to anyone who wants to experience real Tokyo life.

“Fantastic experience”
Reviewed 3 October 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The location was perfect. There was great food right around the corner along with a convenient store. The directions to get there were very helpful for after a long flight and you just want to get to the room. The room was very large which was nice there was plenty of space for everyone to do what they wanted. The pocket wifi was slow at times but a life saver when we got lost. The best part was the view. Getting to see the sun set at that height was just beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.
