“Great location, miserly service”
Reviewed 10 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location, however strangely miserly service. Thermostat was set at an " acceptable" level - 15C which required us to be in three layers of clothing with the fire on. Firewood was provided for the first night then to be purchased for £8 a night. One roll of toilet paper was provided for five people for one week. We were each given one small hotel size bar of soap. I e-mailed the owner questioning the lack of toilet paper and was told in no uncertain terms that it was self supply and given instructions to the nearest store. The cottage was not inexpensive and I expected a little more generosity of spirit

Management Response
12 Jan 2017
Wow! I am genuinely saddened by this review. Not only to receive a bad review after only positives but also due to the lack of respect shown from this guest.
The thermostat is set on a timer. In 2 years no guest has ever said it is not set on a good enough setting however full instructions are left should guests wish to raise or lower the setting.
From.guests arrival I offered to supply free wood for the duration of the stay and I was taken up on the offer. I find it highly disrespectful to even mention such a thing when I provided a service.
I supply to guests some tea, coffee, sugar and some soap and no a couple of toilet rolls. This guest 'demanded' I supplied extra for their stay.
I am genuinely saddened this guest was not happy but I am confident I did all.i could to accommodate this guest. It is a shame to encounter such a rude and disrespectful guest ad I have always had such fantastic people stay at the cottage. I do hope it won't happen again.

Just returned from a few nights in Little Hayfield. Beautiful house with great little details, fantastic location and everything you need. We loved having a woodburner so cosy! The house was very comfortable and lots of character.
Christian was really helpful. No problems...we will definitely be returning!!

“Excellent Stay”

We stayed at the Gatekeepers Cottage in November. What a wonderful cottage, so cosy and clean. We had a great stay, couldn't have asked for anything more. Good location to visit Lyme Park with a great local pub in Little Hayfield. We also booked a half day spa at Loose Hill Hotel, a beautiful spot and what value for money. Thoroughly recommend it.
A great weekend!

“Very Impressive ”

We stayed here at the end of July 2016 and had an amazing time! Firstly the postcode took us straight to the location so it was easy found. When we arrived we were greeted by a peacock at the front door which was a pleasant surprise, it was very friendly. The cottage was very well finished and has everything you would need, it was like a home from home. The kitchen was well equipped, the living area was very homely, it has a large dinning table along with a wood burning stove, 2 sofas and a tv! The bedrooms were very comfortable and during our stay we all slept very well! In the master bedroom there is a double bed and 2 single beds in the 2nd bedroom. The bathroom was also well equipped with a bath/shower and sink and toilet. While we were staying at the cottage we visited Chester Zoo, Trafford centre and Liverpool city centre and they were all handy to get to via car journey. There were also some really nice country pubs that served food quite close to the cottage. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was immaculate for us arriving and the owner (Christian) was very pleasant and easy to work with! We hope to book another visit again soon!

“Perfect trip away and beautiful cottage”

We had a brilliant couple of days away at The Gamekeepers Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, old fashioned but with modern touches - The kitchen in particular was a favourite! The whole place feels cosy, the area is so quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable so we slept really well. We loved seeing the resident ducks and peacocks hanging around.

There are plenty of places to visit near the cottage. We visited a nearby village called Castleton where we went for a relaxing walk, had lunch in a lovely pub and visited a couple of the caverns. There are lots of leaflets provided at the cottage so that you can plan where to go.

We would highly recommend staying here.
