We stayed here at the end of July 2016 and had an amazing time! Firstly the postcode took us straight to the location so it was easy found. When we arrived we were greeted by a peacock at the front door which was a pleasant surprise, it was very friendly. The cottage was very well finished and has everything you would need, it was like a home from home. The kitchen was well equipped, the living area was very homely, it has a large dinning table along with a wood burning stove, 2 sofas and a tv! The bedrooms were very comfortable and during our stay we all slept very well! In the master bedroom there is a double bed and 2 single beds in the 2nd bedroom. The bathroom was also well equipped with a bath/shower and sink and toilet. While we were staying at the cottage we visited Chester Zoo, Trafford centre and Liverpool city centre and they were all handy to get to via car journey. There were also some really nice country pubs that served food quite close to the cottage. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was immaculate for us arriving and the owner (Christian) was very pleasant and easy to work with! We hope to book another visit again soon!

“Perfect trip away and beautiful cottage”

We had a brilliant couple of days away at The Gamekeepers Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, old fashioned but with modern touches - The kitchen in particular was a favourite! The whole place feels cosy, the area is so quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable so we slept really well. We loved seeing the resident ducks and peacocks hanging around.

There are plenty of places to visit near the cottage. We visited a nearby village called Castleton where we went for a relaxing walk, had lunch in a lovely pub and visited a couple of the caverns. There are lots of leaflets provided at the cottage so that you can plan where to go.

We would highly recommend staying here.

“Cosy character property in beautiful location”

Gamekeepers cottage oozes historic character and atmosphere, but has been thoughtfully restored to cater for modern needs. We stayed with our 5 & 10 year old who loved chatting to the ducks and peacocks. The cottage is situated up a peaceful lane, with beautiful walks literally a few steps away. There is a lot to do in the area. We enjoyed a visit to Treak Cliff mine, NT Lyme Park, climbed Mam Tor, walked to a Kinder Reservoir & visited Eyam Plague village all 30 mins away or less. We would love to make a return visit one day.

Thank you to Christian for being such a kind host, we really appreciate it!

We were in love with this cottage and the setting it was in the minute we arrived. Inside has been done out to a high standard, feels homely and has everything you need for your stay. The complimentary bits left on the towels were a nice touch. It is a peaceful location with some fantastic walks from the cottage to be found. The service we received from the owner has been really helpful and with quick responses.

“Atmospheric, quiet and leafy”

A nice (and unusual) house that looks pretty much exactly like the pictures inside, neat, clean and modernized but with plenty of old fashioned elements. The crescent of houses stands by itself among lots of trees and, though there are others living there, it is remarkably quiet. The pond shown in pictures is just outside the front door and has a collection of resident ducks who ramble around happily during the day. Three fine peacocks were also wandering about (when not napping on the roofs) and appeared at the door several times hoping for crumbs. The atmosphere and architecture are a great complement to local country house visiting.
A gate just down the lane opens right onto walking routes up a hillside of purple heather and ferns interspersed with sheep- didn't venture far along but looked enticing and would surely be highly convenient for serious walkers.
