We were visiting family in Athenry and have visited and reviewed Athenry Golf Club previously. We had checked ahead that food was being served on Boxing Day and whilst we were advised that only soup and sandwiches were available that would have done us fine.

We arrived about 1 and there were a few people in the bar, we were told straight away that they were only serving soup. Disappointing, however that suited 2 of our party so we ordered these along with drinks.

The most memorable thing was how cold the place was, not just a little chilly - it was freezing, we didn't take our coats off and left as soon as we were finished.

The steward was really friendly and you couldn't fault the service. A shame as this place has so much potential, with just a few tweaks....

If is a shame that there isn't a 'Good' rating as that would be far more appropriate - this visit was better than a previous one detailed on TA.

The club was busier than we have seen before, which is great. With lovely views, tables by the large windows are a premium.

The waitress was lovely, really friendly and patient with my Dad - his hearing is not as good as it was!

The menu had a lot of choice although nothing overly heathy, however the portions are generous and good value. We had a mixture of starters, soup, smoked salmon and prawns, deep fried Brie and BLT sandwiches served with salad and chips.

We will return, we always do as it is convenient when we visit my parents. It is just lacking a few extra touches.

As said, I wish there was a 'Good' rating to choose from.....

Lovely course. Members very friendly, good welcome. On the day we played the weather was wet and very windy. As a result did not enjoy the day as much. Would be great to play this course on a nice sunny day.
