Description: Hostaria Viola was born in 1909 by the great-grandparents Charles and Viola Santa Besacchi in a small fraction of Castelgoffredo; a peasant family in difficult times began to know and passionate gastronomy and wines to the point of being able to pass on this passion to the following generations. In 1979 the restaurant moved to the nearby, promising and well positioned town of Castiglione , where he soon became a point of reference for the cuisine Mantovana even by those who come from other provinces. Today, the fourth generation, remains the same passion for the culinary tradition of the territory, for the genuineness of the products and for the reception of customer.

We were a group from Israel, Palestine and Italy, and we stopped for lunch last week. The restaurant was chosen by our hosts, and it was the best restaurant I've even in Italy this trip, and it is in my judgement better than several restaurants with Michelin star that I had previously visited. The restaurant offered the house wine, "amabile" (jalf sweet) lambrusco which was a delight. The pasta - home made - was phenomenal, and the meat and Panna
Cotta were very good. The salad at the start was fresh totatos with fine cheese, and I can't say it was special but certainly was tasty. Add to this a seemingly endless supply of Mineral water and bread, and of course espresso at the mea;'s end - and this was a feast. And, amazingly, the bill was only 38 EUR per person (granted we only had 1 bottle of wine for 8 people). For what we paid, this was one of the best lunch bargains I've ever had - but I drank most of the wine and so perhaps I'm biased. Highly recommended

We attended this restaurant today for a business lunch. Our local host had made the booking and recommended some items from the menu.
We started with a selection of cold meats and cheese, the selection was very tasty and parmesan cheese was excellent. This was accompanied with some very nice red whine (several bottles)

To follow i had a guinea foul dish (never seen this on a menu before) and it was delicious. Others in our group had a risotto which also got a good reception.

We finished with dessert (tiramisu) and espresso

Service was fast and friendly

Would highly recommend and will return one day for sure.

Local food made with care and attention. High quality ingredients but with simplicity, it does not strive to be a Michelin star restaurant yet the food is very nice.

Our excellent hotel Palazzo Novello suggested this restaurant in a nearby town. Are we glad we took their advice. The same family has owned the restaurant since 1909 and the fourth generation is now doing the cooking. This is not to say it's an old fashioned place. Beautifully renovated you sit in a 16th century building with superb ceilings. But the best is the quality of the food and really outstanding friendly service.
We loved it. And very very reasonable in pricing. Highly recommended

The kitchen was good. The service also. The wine list poor and not updated. Many of the wines were not available. For me, as a wine lover, a no go.
