My family and I spent a week at this spacious apartment, the owner responded to our booking with lots of information about the apartment and surrounding area. Then we were welcomed by his agent Stephanie Lyard when we arrived. Stephanie's English is fairly basic but we managed OK with some help from google tranlate. All the information in the flat is in English and French but I got the impression that most of their clients are French. I have two teenage children, age 13 and 16. The municipal beach is a minute's walk with an small entrance fee around 5 euro per day from 9.30am - 5.30pm, which was fair as they have a life guard and the beach was kept very clean. After 5.30pm it is free and we sometimes went for an evening swim before dinner. It is a friendly family beach, perfect for young children with sand, paddling pool and lots of shade. The showers and toilets were clean. I was surprised by how warm the water was; it was warm to swim first thing in the morning and felt very clean. Our two loved the diving platform which has a 3 and 5 meter board. The lake is shallow for the first 10 meters with a cordoned off area for swimming. A short walk down the lake we found paddle boards ( 12 euro per hour ) , paddle boats ( 18 euro per half hour ) and kayaks for hire. There are no dangerous water currents on the lake so I could relax re. water safety. The wake boarding was a bit beyond my budget 36euro per 15 minutes, but might try it next year.
The apartment has eight bikes from age 7 to adult. I had a comfort bike and my husband chose a gents tourer. All the pumps and repair kits and helmets were in the flat. My two had teenager sized bikes Our best day trip was that we all took the bikes with us on the water bus into Annecy then cycled back along the cycle track. Annecy has lots of old streets with cafes and restaurants. We ate fondue for around 15 euro a head. There was a water slide on the east side of the harbour, which my two also loved.
The apartment came with a gas bbq, fully equipped kitchen. The wifi worked fine and we could watch netflix. I was delighted with how much care had been taken; the owners live in the flat for some of the time, so they have thought of most things.
For my kids the hight light was the diving platform and fishing for my son, swimming and reading for my daughter. For me, it was the 15 minute walk up the river, through the woods to the local boulangerie.
The only drawback I found was the traffic from Annecy back to St Jorioz could mean that a 10 minute drive became half an hour, so we had to time our trips into town. We found free parking after 7pm at the first roundabout into Annecy, next to the marina and tended to use that for evening restaurant trips. The beach could get quite busy so some days we walked along the lake to a couple of free beaches.
The local Super U supermarket was a 5 minute drive, so we used that for most things. You can also hire a car from the same, so we might try that next year and get the train to Annecy. I have booked for next year; kids hope to try catamaran sailing lessons at the local sailing club but you have to book early for that.
