“Amazing Views”
Reviewed 5 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I stayed here with my husband and two teenage sons at the end of July and we all absolutely loved it. The villa has the most amazing views all around it and we felt very at home there. We went exploring and the owners tips on places/towns really helped. We loved arriving back in the afternoon and then just spending the afternoon cooling off in the pool. The Spar in Seggiano was well stocked but we did tend to go to Castell del Piano to the Co-op as it was bigger. We all loved the thermal pools at Bagno Vignoni and its well worth stopping there for a spot of lunch and a dip in the pool. Emmanuel was very helpful and always there to ask for advice on parking in towns etc. Will definitely be returning to Italy.

House was great, pool sheer bliss in the heat.we all loved the very polite cat who came to call but never came in.however the insects did come in so plenty of insect repellent and doppo puntura needed. The best restaurants were local especially terra d`orcia.and the shop opposite bar 60 had everything we needed.and the rock pools at the bottom of the road were heavenly. And the books and dvds were super.could not ask for more (just less insects)

“Great place to enjoy the Italian countryside!”

Casa Olivestra was a beautiful place to get away from the crowded cities and enjoy the peaceful countryside. The well-equipped kitchen and plenty of movies allowed us to make dinner at home and relax watching a movie afterwards most evenings. My kids particularly enjoyed the swimming pool and we all took long walks along the road. The house has a good location - we took days trips to the hot springs at Saturnia and visited Pitigliano.

The only negatives were that the owners were initially a little difficult to communicate with during the booking process and there were lots of bugs around the house - but I imagine that's what you get when you're living in the country!

“Excellent holiday - great Pool”

We had a fabulous holiday, the apartment is equipped to a very high standard as billed. The pool in particular was a lovely respite from the heat.

No air conditioning meant cooking in the evenings was a no no. The insects discourage leaving doors open and an overnight mosquito solution should be used.

The kitchen has all the basics supplied and we tried to leave more than we used.

The road in is a challenge but we had a sporty merc and managed OK.

Wine tasting at the local castle should be done in your first week.

Terry rang up and made sure we had everything we needed - directions in a real help for your first time.

Loads to do and history in the area - would likely go back.

There is a mobile signal but no WiFi.

“Lovely villa in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Casa Olivastra is a well-maintained villa in beautiful surroundings. It is a good base from which to explore the hill-top villages in the region such as Montalcino (30 mins), Pienza (45 mins), Montepulciano (1 hr) and Cortona (1hr 45 mins). When visiting these towns I recommend you make an early start as car parking can be problematic. The local town of Seggiano is about 7 mins drive away and has an excellent bar/trattoria, Caffe 60 - the food here was some of the best we had in Tuscany. Castel del Piano is around 15 mins drive away and has a larger selection of bars and restaurants - one of the best of which was La Fey - their beef special was wonderful!

The pool area at the villa is lovely, with amazing views over the surrounding countryside and beautiful sunsets. It was nice to have an undercover seating area next to the pool and a barbeque, which we made use of. The kitchen was well-equipped but more glasses should be provided. You will need to buy some citronella candles and plug-ins for the bedrooms as mosquitoes were a nuisance in the evenings.

There were a couple of issues that didn't in any way affect our enjoyment of the holiday but would have made our stay a bit more comfortable and may be something the owners would like to consider. The access to the property is down a steep lane of loose stone. We had two small cars that we took down to the entrance to the villa when we first arrived - this was a mistake as we had terrible trouble getting them back up the slope. If you haven't got a large car or a four-wheel drive then you will need to park at the top of the lane and walk down to the property - in the evening you will need to take a torch with you! Whilst this did not present a problem to most of of our party, it will be problematic if you have elderly or disabled relatives/friends travelling with you and was an issue for my mum. Some prior knowledge of this would have been helpful.

Whilst there were five decent sun loungers provided (albeit they didn't have padded cushions on them, which we would have expected), the sixth sun lounger wasn't usable as it was very unstable - another one should be provided if the villa is being let to six adults.

I would have expected a villa of this calibre to have air condititioning; whilst there were fans provided these did little to alleviate the heat in the bedrooms.

A huge thank you to Phil Twiss (a previous occupant of the villa) who helped us with car hire and provided us with invaluable information on the local area.

I would not hesitate to recommend the villa - we had the most wonderful time and would definitely return in the future.
