We had a really enjoyable stay at the cosy treetops with great views from the big windows. Sam, the host was very accommodating and arranged at short notice a bottle of prosecco for us on arrival. Lots to do in the area too.

“quirky and adorable”

The tree growing through the balcony, the beautiful view, fairy lights, country sounds, comfortable, pleasant furnishings, and a friendly, welcoming hostess, all contributed to our weekend being wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable. Whatever the weather, Treetops is a wonderful place to unwind, whether out on the balcony with a coffee or glass of wine, or snug inside.

Although in the heart of the country, it is not too isolated, with easy walking access to Herstmonceux village which has a range of eating choices from English pub to Indian restaurant as well as General Store, and local walks.

Herstmonceux Observatory is fascinating if you are travelling with a child (for a wide age range), the beach is only 15 minute drive (Pevensey), and Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton are a little further.

Would thoroughly recommend this charming and beautiful place to anyone, will hopefully return, sooner rather than later

“Nice little base for exploring 1066 country...”
Reviewed 19 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Treetops is a compact and decent base in the heart of 1066 country; perfect for one or two people looking to explore the area. We used it as a base from which to explore Hastings, Brighton and other notable places such as Herstmonceux Castle and Hever Castle.

Set on the ground and 1st floor of an out-building next to the owners house, Treetops has a smart little kitchen and a decent bathroom on the ground floor, and a studio on the 1st floor complete with a lounge area, double-bed and a balcony area with a table and chairs. The place is generally in good condition and well-kept, although I cannot say that it is perfect, as some of the furnishings are starting to show the effects of wear and tear (possibly a sign of how popular this place is). But, there is nothing that I would say is a blocker to recommending others to stay here. We found it a relaxing place to spend a couple of days while tripping around East Sussex and Kent.

Accommodation Plus Points:
+ Unique and characterful accommodation.
+ Kitchen has a small selection of kitchenware/crockery/utensils.
+ Heating/hot water system are very effective.
+ Views from studio area are attractive.
+ Quiet location with no light/sound pollution.
+ Car parking off road.
+ Close-ish to local shops and a couple of decent pubs.
+ Owner is very friendly.

Accommodation negative points
- Beginning to shown signs of wear and tear in some furnishings.
- Mattress could be a bit more comfortable.
- Tall people may struggle with the headroom in some places

In terms of local activities and places to go, Hastings and Brighton are approximately an hour drive away. Lewes is a bit closer as is Battle. The roads in the area are good and traffic is pretty light, so the drives are not something that should dissuade people. Herstmonceux Castle and Observatory (Science Centre) are 5/10 minutes away and are worth a visit, and Hever Castle is about an hour drive away but is also worth a visit. Aside from these, the central location of Herstmonceux puts you within an easy drive to many towns and locations in south east England.

We'd definitely stay again.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I'm so glad you had a good time. Thanks for letting me know about the bed too - I've just bought a brand new 3000 pocket memory foam mattress which will arrive on Tuesday in time for Wednesday's guests. Hope to see you again soon,

Sam.
