“Home in the heart of a beutiful village”

Cosy home in the heart of Beer which is a beautiful village.
The home has a small but very functional ground floor and 3 large bedrooms upstairs.
It is located right on the main street across a good little delicatessen and next to several restaurants open for all meals from English breakfast to really good diners at the Dolphin hotel or at The Spice merchant indian restaurant The street is quiet at night and there is mostly foot traffic by the door. I could stand there occasionally, talk to the locals and pat a few dogs.
We enjoyed the cottage after settling in and finding out how to work the equipment.
There is good heating, which was required when we arrived on a cool rainy afternoon, but you have to look for the instructions to run it. WiFi is great as well as the TV. The beds are confortable , the bathroom is fine and there is plenty of hot water. We found the washer-Dryer complicated compared to North American machines. No Hair dryer or iron available. Parking in the village is available but not free. I chose to buy a 25 Pound weekly ticket which is good also in many other East Devon sites
Jane has been quite responsive on the Trip advisor mail and open to requests and suggestions.
Beer is a wonderful location to visit the Jurassic coast. We enjoyed great weather all week and day hikes to Seaton and Branscombe along the cliffs. The village has a lot of shops, hotels and restaurants. Just walking down the street , to the beach and harbour as well as on the cliff tops is a treat. Visiting the Beer Quarry is a must. Lyme Regis is within 20 min drive and there is a good bus system in the region.
We certainly plan to go again .

Thank you for your kind review. I am so pleased you had a comfortable stay in our cottage .you mention that there is no iron or hairdryer. We will be providing hair dryers in each of our cottages by next week and I am sorry one was not there during your stay. The iron and ironing board are stored upstairs in the larger of the two front bedrooms so sorry you could not locate them.
We would be delighted to welcome you should you wish to stay in the future.
Very best wishes

“Charming Location”
Reviewed 26 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Beer is a real gem tucked away between Sidmouth & Seaton & staying at Gravel Cottage was a real pleasure helped with some glorious weather . The cottage was clean & tidy on arrival , the downstairs / kitchen area is on the small side but the bedrooms upstairs were more than adequate . Being in the centre of the village is great with everything you need only a short walk away .
If was thinking of returning I'd definitely book Gravel Cottage again

“Good family holiday location”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in April 2016

6 Gravel Cottages
6 Gravel Cottages is a small, yet charming and authentic cottage in the main thoroughfare of the village, just 2 minutes walk to the stoney beach, across the road from a Deli and Fish N Chip shop and two doors down from the very tasty Spice Merchant Indian Restaurant.
The cottage is small on the ground floor, but provides a suitable amount of room for a couple/young family to enjoy some TV and a meal. Coffee, Tea and a pint of milk is provided as a nice welcoming gift.
Warning to the more internet/email- concious readers - there is no Wi-Fi. Even 4G makes only a fleeting appearance in the village, but those not reliant on technology will not find this to be an issue.
There is a nice sized TV with Freeview (complete with HDMI slot, if you want to view downloaded content via your tablet).
The upstairs is bigger, with three decent-sized bedrooms, with 1 king, 1 double and 1 twin.
Being on the thoroughfare, you do get the bustling of the people walking by the window and front door and the church bell practice, but this is part of its charm.
Parking is not really an issue - the public car park is less than a minutes walk from the house. Although it is a pay and display car park, the charging hours are 0800-1800, which didn't really affect us as we went out for the whole day. Current charges can be found on the internet however.
As for the beach, it is not one to take the kids paddling to, as the decent on the stones is steep and the waves can be furious, but the kids found it fascinating to watch...from a safe distance away!
Overall, this is a great little pad to base ourselves from for the 3 nights we were here.

“Lovely Cottage in a great location”
Reviewed 13 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Beer is a beautiful village, shops, pubs, restaurants, with a safe and beautiful pebble beach - it has been a favourite of our family for many years. You need a car but handy for Lyme, Seaton, Branscombe, Exmouth.

Pros: Cottage was lovely. One open plan room downstairs with enough seats for 6, TV and small but sufficient kitchen. Upstairs there are 3 large well decorated, comfortable bedrooms - 1 double, 1 king size, 1 twin - and good sized bathroom with bath+electric shower. The front door opens straight on to the village street, short walk down to the beach - great to be in the middle of things. Nice towels and bedding. No wifi, little phone reception :)

Cons: In Apr the downstairs was cool (radiator didn't quite cope) though upstairs was toasty. No parking near by. 2 Hrs free parking close by, but a short walk to the edge of the village for completely free parking. No freezer, not much storage space for food. Digital TV was good, used our own DVD player. No wifi, little phone reception.

We had a great time - would book again.

Dear guest, thank you for your very positive review, we are adding wifi to the cottages this week as we have had a few requests for this. We have also taken on board you comment regarding the heating downstairs and will be adding an extra radiator soon. We hope that you will visit us again and would be pleased to welcome you.

“The most convenient central location”
Reviewed 4 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We stayed for 3 nights only on a chilly Easter weekend. The best thing is that this cottage is bang in the centre of the village. Fish and chips over the road, curry 2 doors up, deli across the road (where you get and return keys). It's all so convenient.
The cottage nice and well kept. It's a little top heavy, I there are 3 large comfortable pleasant, bedrooms upstairs and only one small room downstairs so that the kitchen table has to be folded out in the seating area for the tv if you want to eat there. That said we are out every night and so there were no challenges for us. I have to confess I think that the heating may be a little bit of a challenge in the winter as there is one radiator in the downstairs room and the door arent air tight. With the heating on it was just about OK for us and 5 degrees outside at night.
All in all this was a great break. As I said before the location is a huge winner. The village has loads of places to eat and drink and walks are stunning.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. I have taken note of your comments regarding the heating, must say that we've stayed there in the worst winter weather and been toasty warm and it's not been a problem. Maybe an extra radiator can be arranged. Being an old cottage making doors and windows completely airtight can be a challenge but we will see what we can do to draught proof it further. We do hope you will visit us again.
