If you like 1970s style unmodernised motels, then you may just love this place. Facilities are almost non existent- no grounds- just a tiny, cold pool, breakfasts only (other meals need to be pre booked, no drop in!) no room service, no porter, literally a dozen rooms on a motel type layout. Rooms were large but totally charmless in every way. Location- one minute from the airport, but no other amenities nearby so totally the wrong end of town. Worst hotel of our stay in S America

We're sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay on Easter Island like the most.

Hotel PUKU VAI did open October 2010 making it one of the newest properties in Easter Island.

Colors, materials – including stone decorations in your room – represent the artistic heritage of Easter Island.

The same colors (white, red and black) were mixed by the ancestors and stone art is connected to religious (spirits) and themes (such as fishing) important to natives.

Due to island's extreme location hotels of the island lack cable tv etc. just as the island does not have international chain brands in streets.

However, we encourage our guests to see beyond differences and find value in its unique culture, history and nature, instead.

We recommend visiting our website for the photos so that you know what to expect. Additionally, whenever you compare your options you'll soon notice that Hotel PUKU VAI stands out since we have A/C, Free WiFi, garden with an outdoors pool and Tour upgrades.

All the best!

We visited Easter Island in early December 2017. It was our first time to visit this charming isolated island. We stayed in Hotel Puku Vai for 3 nights and we enjoyed every part of it. The hotel was very near airport (it is quite easy to get around in easter island by taxi and the hotel can call tax for the guests). The hotel staffs are very friendly. In particular, Mr. Jarkko provided excellent suggestion on where to go, where to eat, and how to get around. The breakfast was good and enjoyable. The hotel also provided laundry services at very reasonable price. Overall, we feel very happy that we chose this hotel and we highly recommend it to everyone visiting the Easter Island.

After different hotel recommendations from our travel agent, we booked this hotel purely on it's trip advisor rating, it was rated second of all on Easter Island and is easy to see why.....we spent our first 2 days doing different tours and were always the first pickup, meaning we got to sticky beat alot of the other hotels, ours appeared to be the most presentable by far.
LOCATION - it is approx 350mtrs from the airport but don't let that scare you off. My husband and I never once heard the daily Latam plane. When you arrive on the island you could walk to the hotel but the sidewalks would probably wreck your luggage wheels, I'd recommend getting picked up. It takes approx. 20 mins to walk/stroll from the hotel to the main street. We sometimes got a taxi which was $2000clp ($4.72AUD) and on our last few days we hired a car ($50,000clp).
ROOMS
We stayed in a 'matrimonial' room which had a king size bed that was very comfortable. I have seen comments that note the rooms are dark. As someone who is a poor sleeper I found this perfect, particularly for the daytime siestas we indulged in. There are bulky curtains that when open let in plenty of natural light while maintaining your privacy. The bathrooms were modern and spotless. We left our passports and cash in the room safe each day with no problems. The air conditioning was a blessing and not too many hotels on the Island have them.
RESTAURANT
Breakfast was included each day and alongside eggs cooked however you want the spread was amazing. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, a selection of meats, desserts (foreign to us Aussies as a part of breakfast), delicious breads, cheeses, coffee, tea and juice. It is also open for dinner if you want to pre order but we were too busy exploring each night and went to different restaurants instead.
GROUNDS
Every time I looked out of our doors to the pool there was someone busily cleaning, mopping or gardening, they never stop working to make this place enjoyable for their guests.
STAFF
The staff spoke good english and were always more than willing to assist. One day we even borrowed their esky (icebox) to throw some drinks in while we watched to sunset over the Moai. They were polite, happy and hardworking.

Thank you for your review of Hotel PUKU VAI, Easter Island!

You made a noteworthy remark regarding how we're positioned when compared to other hotels of the island. We're happy you did trust your instincts.

Due to Easter Island's extreme location, not many travel agencies have firsthand experience of the island. Thus, you might tell them about Hotel PUKU VAI or, alternatively, book directly with us.

All the best for you and your husband!

Great place to stay on outskirts of Hanga Roa so quiet at night & airport proximity is a non issue (all 2 flights a day are just that, during the day). Rooms & facilities excellent, service & attention to detail very good. Breakfasts delicious with diverse choices. If you stay for dinner you need to book the day before & tell them what you'd like to eat...there is no dinner menu. Lovely gardens & pool, all rooms' patio doors/windows open onto the garden & pool.

Room Tip: All rooms face the pool & gardens

Thank you for your review of Hotel PUKU VAI, Easter Island!

Please, note that you might book a table in the restaurant the same day (breakfast hour assuming you're outside all day for touring). Only groups and big families should give us a heads-up day before.

That way we do not have to throw away any food. The island is struggling towards more sustainable future and, thus, hotels and restaurants cannot operate as carelessly as businesses located in cities.

All the best!
