We spent three days this July with Charles and Andree. The setting is ideal. The location is central, but with a country small town feel. Jonquieres is charming. The restaurant Charles recommended was perfect. None of the wait staff spoke English so the chef came to our table to help with the menu! The two dogs are a real pleasure. " Auguste the cocker spaniel is a true gentleman host, and Titus is his sweet back-up! They helped us from missing our dogs to much. Charles' wine tour is not to be missed. You are welcomed as a friend at all of the winery's when you are with him, and his knowledge is exceptional. If you are traveling to Provence, at least start your trip at Le Mas du clos de L ' Escarrat! It will set the perfect tone for exploring Provence!! Jeff and Glenda

Jeff and Glenda, it has been such a pleasure to read your great review ! I can see that as opposed to the previous review you have been enjoying a lot the kindness of our dogs !
Indeed, Jonquières is in a very centrical location in Provence which makes it easy to explore the most interesting spots.
Thank you also for your very nice comments about the wine tour. We do hope to see you again at le Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat !

Location was a bit out of the way. Had to meander narrow lanes to get there. A charming older farm house with basic amenities. The air con was a disappointment - it was only in the living room and took forever to reach the bedrooms. We will not travel to Europe in the summer again - sweltering heat is uncomfortable.

Wifi was iffy and available only for restricted hours. We did not have wifi the first two days which was an issue when one had to do work online. Andree was friendly and helpful. The dogs however were scary at first, barking furiously. I thought I would be bitten!

Room Tip: Mistral had privacy but no air con in the bedrooms.

We absolutely loved our stay at this charming, rural oasis of calm. Owners Charles and Andrée are the perfect hosts - accommodating and helpful but not hovering. We stayed in the newly remodeled 'Ventoux' suite, aptly named after the famous mountain viewable from the small and comfortable terrace. We found everything we needed for our stay and the room was decorated in typical "Provencal' style, right down to the dishes embossed with 'cigales'. The kitchen was compact but perfect for our holiday needs. The bathroom proved spacious, especially the shower which was quite large compared to some of the tiny capsules we've encountered in France.
We were in the area to visit several wineries in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the location was perfect - just a short, scenic drive to the vineyards. Charles if a font of wine information when it comes to the local vintners and kindly hooked us up with one of his friends who owns a marvelous property in nearby Vacqueyras, which was an afternoon to remember.
All in all, this was a wonderful stay - peaceful vineyard views from the terrace where we could enjoy our wine and 'appero' time in tranquil surroundings.

Dear Hilarie, we are most thankful for your excellent review about your stay at le Mas. Your description of the apartment "Ventoux" is very precise and accurate. Our other apartments may differ in size and decoration, but the comfort is similar.
I'm glad that you have mentioned your visit to my friend Henri from le Clos de Caveau in Vacqueyras. I do hope that sometimes you will write about his excellent AOC Vacqueyras wines on your blog. Please let me know. Merci !

I echo the other reviewers many praises! While planning our trip long ago in January I found a glowing review of Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat on another site, then checked on TA for confirmation. Once I read the reviews here, and a few easy email exchanges with Charles, decided to book. We were a party of 3 - one couple, and our friend - desiring two rooms. Charles proposed the two studios for us, which ended up being perfect. The view from the terrace of the studios was stunning and we spent many happy hours there both morning and night during our six night stay.

A few specific call-outs that might help in planning your trip:

-Charles and Andree are lovely and gracious hosts. Charles' willingness to recommend excellent restaurants (even with a late day ask), and then make our reservation was like having a private concierge. Andree's breakfast was lovely, although we opted to prepare our own breakfasts after the first day since we had the kitchenette (and a stovetop espresso maker!).
- If you enjoy wine to any extent, DO NOT MISS the wine tour with Charles (see separate review for details). As others have said, it was one of the absolute highlights of our trip.
-They offer many nice "extras" - wifi, laundry access (incredibly helpful!), an excellent bottle of welcoming wine, nice dishes, plush towels, a surprisingly well-equipped kitchenette - in what is already lodging of great value, especially the studios.
-Ventoux had a more comprehensive kitchenette than Montmirail should you plan on a little light meal preparation and are contemplating between the two studio options.
-Andree provided outstanding recommendations for the famed markets, suggested villages and towns to visit, and even provided a detailed and marked map.
-The location is a little bit off the beaten path. This was not an issue for us in any way, but might be for someone who wants to be able to walk to a different restaurant every night. While you could walk to Jonquieres, there seemed to be only one restaurant there (where we had an excellent lunch and at such a reasonable price!) so you really need to move about in your car. That said, there are many very good (and some very, VERY good) restaurant options just a short drive away. Because we ended up touring most of the day, on several days we had our exciting meal midday and were happy to return to our terrace with a local bottle of wine, baguette, cheese, etc.
-It was a perfect base for us - we covered a lot of territory during our stay, and found the location very central to the sites and activities that interested us.

In summary, I highly recommend Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat, and Charles and Andree. Lovely.

Thank you Charles and Andree for an amazing experience. If you want to find a place to stay for a trip to the Cotes du Rhone then you have found it. This is a wonderful bed and breakfast run by two wonderful people. The location is perfect. The views are fantastic. Charles will help you get reservations at any restaurant you want. We ate at two Michelin restaurants while we were there. For an additional fee, Charles will also spend the day with you taking you to all the vineyards and caves he knows so well. Our wine tasting with Charles was the highlight of the trip. And Charles and Andree even helped us box up our wine before we left. Their service and hospitality are unmatched. My wife and I would definitely recommend Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat to anyone looking to enjoy the peace and serenity (and some fantastic wine!) of the south of France.

Thank you so much Jason for the time you took to write such a brilliant review ! Andrew and I are always ashamed when we read so many compliments about us because we don't think we are deserving them ! We act just naturally as B&B owners should do with their guests : friendly welcome, informations about what to do and where to go, true restaurants instead of tourist traps...etc...
I'm also very pleased to read that the wine tour was the highlight of your trip. I have also enjoyed very much your company and thank you again for your invitation to the Michelin starred restaurant "Le Diapason" in Avignon. Merci !
