“just hope we never bump into the resident ghost !!!!!”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

i love this hotel, it is purched on the edge of the river and years ago used to be a watermill. this place has bundles and bundles of history, even going back to the dommsday book. the rooms are lovely, the suites are very spacious but the best ones are the rooms that overlook the tiny river that runs along the back. there is so much outdoor seating area which is fantastic when the sun is out. definately one of those places to take a book, grab a coffee and just loose yourself in the woodland surroundings. this place isnt too far from the motorway but you are not affected by any noise which is good news. the restaurant attatched to this hotel gets so busy that even residents are advised to book or you could have to wait a while to be seated. the atmospere in this place is always buzzing and the decor is so oldy woldy with low ceilings, beams and little nooks and crannies everywhere. the food is decent pub grub, getting hungry just writing this, and the staff are always busy but alwasy friendly. i love this place. plenty of parking too. there is rumoured to be the ghost of a lady that floats around in the oldest part of this place but who know. big thumbs up here.

Room Tip: ask to get a room overlooking the small river

Stayed here on business whilst attending a trade show at the NEC, although it isn't on the doorstep for the exhibition it's an easy (if quite busy) drive down the A45. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was very nice with a king size bed and a small seating area. The bar has a good atmosphere, more like a local and less like the bars you find in some of the large chain hotels. I must have missed the rush for breakfast as I was sat on my own, I'm not complaining, it was rather nice. Breakfast itself was very good and plenty of it. You could do a lot worse than stay at The Old Mill, some of the hotels nearer the NEC were charging twice the price for similar accommodation.

After the untimely death of our daughter We couldn't face a christmas at home so we stayed at the Old Mill by the river. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and were very kind and went out of their way to help us. The food was great, and the Christmas lunch and News Year Eve gala were fab and great value for money. The manager Linda was always around and made an effort to speak to you and she looked great welcoming guests on New Year's eve-you really felt like a VIP!. The rooms were spacious, warm and comfortable. Sitting out having a coffee and a snack by the river was so relaxing helped us get over our 1st christmas without our beautiful daughter-Thankyou.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the river they are really quiet

Having read through a pevious review, Im inclined to completely dissagree about the quality of the food. My husband and I have stayed here 3 or 4 times over the past year, and feel the quality of the food is excellent. The price of the food is very reasonable for what you actually get, for example we had the Sunday dinner and our plate was full of fresh vegetables, fresh meat and delicious roast potatoes.

As well as the great food, the service, in both the hotel and restaurant, location and bedrooms are excellent, and we have never felt the need to complain. We will be visiting again, and will certainly recommend to our friends.
