We booked the Casa di Zano via the Italian agriturismo website. We had arranged it only a few weeks before so availability of accommodation was limited for the times we wanted to travel, so we weren’t really sure what we were going to find on arrival.
What a lovely surprise!!
The owner Stella welcomed us like long lost friends, even though we arrived early and disturbed her family afternoon. She and Amanda, with whom she runs the Fattoria, couldn’t have been more helpful. Stella even let our boys watch the World Cup in her living room when our TV wouldn’t work, supplying snacks to keep them going. Unfortunately she couldn’t arrange for England to win, but if she could have done, I’m sure she would.
The Fattoria is only about 45 minutes drive from Pisa airport. The holiday accommodation is a few minutes drive from the main house, up a gravel road. It is not for the faint hearted- the road is steep and narrow and you don’t want to meet anything coming in the other direction! But my goodness, it’s worth it. The views on arrival are stunning, and it is so peaceful.
The accommodation is basic but was clean and had everything we needed. The plumbing was good so the showers were great.
The lovely little swimming pool was close to the house, though a bit of a trek from some of the other rental properties.
The Fattoria produces its own olive oil and honey which are available to buy and once a week they lay on a meal for the guests to try their produce, other local specialities and meet each other which was definitely a high point of my stay.
If it’s peace and relaxation in stunning surroundings you need on holiday, this is the place.
