A late review, stayed October 2010 for two nights on a self-guided motorcycle trip around Northern Thailand. You will need a vehicle (or be on a tour) to appreciate the National Park and surrounds. Wet and miserable weather when we were there. Did not reach the top of the National Park due to wild and windy weather and heavy rain, not the greatest experience on a motorbike, truly slipping and sliding, so we turned back, just short of the top. Quite cool up there too! Nevertheless, really enjoyed the surrounds, lots of nice photo opportunities at nearby temple, and enjoyed watching/talking to the monks toiling away in the rain at another temple, just a short walk from accommodation. Also walked to nearby village and enjoyed that. As for accommodation - very western-style, hardly anyone there, but imagine it would be quite crowded at other times of year. Had everything we needed, ensuite, wifi (a bit sporadic) and a restaurant where we ate breakfast and dinner. Restaurant was large, quite a good menu, ok food, but staff were glued to the large (blaring!) TV, watching a soap-opera, so we received scant attention, everytime we dined there! Price for room was more than would normally pay in Thailand, but acceptable as it gave us a chance to "dry out" and have a break (and included breaakfast). An ok place to stay, but certainly not the true "thai experience" that we had in many other places.
