“Not too good to be true!”

We have been traveling in CR for seven weeks and have rented eight houses during this time. When we first came across Red Sunset on Tripadvisor we thought it looked and sounded too good for the price they we asking compared to other houses we rented. Long story short - the house, pool, view, food and service are all excellent and worth a lot more than Patrick (the owner, host and chef) charges. I mentioned this to him and he said they choose to keep the price low to keep the occupancy level high - which it is. If you are fortunate enough to get a reservation, you will be completely satisfied.

“Amazing Home, Location & Hosts. Highly recommended!”
Reviewed 7 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Our group of 5 stayed at the Red Sunset for a week in early February 2016 and had a wonderful experience. The home is simply perfect for a group with plenty of space for all to either be together in the common areas or to find a quiet place to relax. The weather was awesome and the location is up high so there were wonderful breezes and when we were there no need for AC which was a nice surprise. The views of the lake, mountains and sunsets are outstanding and the separate building housing a large indoor pool and hot tub made for great ends to every evening. But the absolute best part of the entire experience was our host Patrick and his lovely wife. Every morning they prepared a custom breakfast with many items from their own garden and fresh eggs from their chickens. The fresh fruit smoothies were outstanding too and made with freshly picked pineapples, cantaloupes and bananas. On the night of my birthday we asked Patrick to make dinner and he outdid himself by preparing fresh tilapia tacos with fish taken from his pond on the property. Can’t get any fresher than this! Dinner was followed by a chocolate lava cake that was to die for. The next best part of our stay were the recommendations we received from Patrick on what to do and where to go (and where not to go). Each morning Patrick would visit us after breakfast was cleared away and ask what we wanted to do that day. Then he would provide great recommendations and even drew a map for us each day showing where we might want to go and eat based on the input from our group. This was completely unexpected and added greatly to our trip as he guided us to places and restaurants that we would have otherwise never found. Our stay at the Red Sunset was simply amazing and we all would go back again in a heartbeat. Thank you Patrick for an amazing experience!!!

“Home Away from Home”
Reviewed 26 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

The Red Sunset is even better than it looks online. The home is beautiful and very peaceful. I don't think you will find a better view from anywhere else in the Lake Arenal area. We saw guan and toucans just feet away from the balcony.
We felt at home the moment we stepped through the door. Patrick had dinner ready and the hot tub was heated up so we could relax after a long day of travel. Patrick is a superb host, it is obvious that he loves his country and enjoys introducing others to everything Costa Rica has to offer. He made everything seamless, it was so nice to have access to his expertise when we were in the planning stages and he made all of the reservations for all of our activities. He also arranged for our driver since we were a bit nervous about trying to drive during our first visit to Costa Rica. Jaimie, our driver, was absolutely awesome. He is friends with everyone in the area and was great about getting out with us at each activity to help us check in smoothly. Patrick and Jaimie both became friends and we were sad to leave.
The breakfast every morning is decadent, we became quite spoiled. I also highly recommend having dinner at home. Patrick is an amazing cook, the chicken parm he made was the best I've ever had! It is so nice to come back after a full day of touring and not have to worry about what's for dinner.
Our family travels quite a bit and I have to say that we have never had a better, more welcoming experience anywhere else we have ever been.

“Superbe!”
Reviewed 8 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Staying at Sunset was without a doubt one of funnest parts of our whole Costa Rica experience. The house is big, beautiful, and interesting. The view is spectacular. The rooms are spacious and each have their own bathroom. Beautiful antiques from ancient Mayan ruins fill the downstairs space. The kitchen and dining room are huge. Most of all, the hospitality of Patrick and his lovely wife is beyond words. They catered to our every need. If desired they prepare fantastic meals for their guests. They were so helpful for navigating every desired trip. I would go back there, and in fact, plan to do so again some day!

“Beautiful home, wonderful location, friendly and knowledgeable host”
Reviewed 25 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stayed at Patrick's beautiful home for a five-night stay. Patrick was a most cordial and knowledgeable host who drew us a map of the area and where we needed to go on each day of our adventures. By the way, he cooked our fabulous breakfast each morning as well The home is amazing- 6 unique bedrooms, each with full bath, laundry room, book-lined living room, gourmet kitchen and gorgeous dining room. It is sumptuous yet very inviting and homey. On the last night of our stay, the wind blew hard and incessantly all night but we knew the home was very well built and could easily withstand wind and rain. What we will always remember from our trip are the beautiful views from each room as well as the nature walks available right outside the door of the house. We will heartily recommend this home to friends and family.
