Stayed here for 3 nights in the oceanfront deluxe pool villa which has gorgeous seaview from its oceanfront position. There was also easy beach access.
Villa is in typical six senses design made of bamboo and wood and simple.
Size is relatively big.
The bathroom is huge but toilet a tad too small.
3 adults were staying here and they were very proactive and prepared everything in 3s including 3 deck chairs, 3 bicycles, toiletries, slippers, glasses, etc. Impressed!
GEM was friendly and helpful.
Winds were huge on 2nd and 3rd day there. One of our beach towels on the deck chairs got blown into the pool!
Resort has a nice pool. Loved the restaurant by the beach the most. Eating al fresco by the beach with the sounds of the waves is just wonderful.
Breakfast is great too! Do not forget the sparkling wine at breakfast!
Found the spa a little underwhelming. Spa rooms were spartan and warm. Massage was ok.
Complimentary yoga was not bad too.
Overall, highly recommended!

We travel a lot. By the time we arrived at Six Senses Con Dao we'd been in Indochina for 5 weeks. We had already stayed in some excellent hotels and resorts - including 3 Four Seasons. But just occasionally you come across a place that feels different and special as soon as you arrive - and the Six Senses is one of those places. It's not as luxurious as a Four Seasons resort but it has a unique lower-key Robinson Crusoe atmosphere that is very welcoming and it is in a really wonderful setting.

Don't let this description make you think that the place is not comfortable - quite the contrary. The villas are very spacious indeed - with super cosy beds and bed linen, spacious bathrooms and an outdoor shower. We had a private plunge pool too and a direct view out to the sea (as do all villas). Our butler, who looked more like Harry Potter than Harry Potter, was on hand seemingly at all hours of all days to look after us in whatever way we needed.

The food does not disappoint either. Super breakfasts with a wide choice of local and western cuisine, good selection of lunches including suitable light food to avoid the calories piling on, and a good a la carte menu and various special events for dinner.

All of the staff were friendly and attentive - Harry especially - but we must also mention Nick and Marissa who head the management team and were outstanding - greeting us on arrival, looking after us during our stay and saying farewell personally as we left. Such attention costs nothing other than effort, but makes a significant difference to guests' feeling of being welcome.

If you're looking for a few days to relax during a sightseeing trip around Vietnam then look no further.

A great escape in a place with friendly and flawless service without being stuffy. No detail in missed, and the food is excellent. The Vietnamese "street food" breakfast buffet was amazing some of the best food we had in Vietnam. The ocean front villas are spectacular and while the resort is a lot larger than i expected it maintains an intimate feeling due to low key architecture and with facilities that ensure no place is crowded. The private infinity pools make it unnecessary to go to the main pool and the South China Sea was just 50 feet in front of us. Excellent managers and staff.

We stayed here three nights and certainly enjoyed ourselves. The free standing villas take a little bit to get used to - bathroom and wardrobe facilities are downstairs, bedroom (and second toilet) upstairs, with access between the two levels external to the rooms. Rooms comfortably if simply furnished, but we appreciated the “Gilligan’s Island” approach of feeling cast away. I would rate “good” if trip advisor had that rating, but certainly can’t rate “very good”. This is because at over $900Aus a night, far dearer than other Vietnam accom we stayed in, we felt there was something missing. Little things like the fact that I ran my lovely big bath, then went to light the lovely tea lights that were by the bath - but no matches anywhere. Or yoga available free on the morning but at a cost in the afternoon! Some activities are only possible if they get enough people - snorkelling for example. Sorry, costs in Vietnam are not so high that this can’t be provided even if only one person surely? (It was already an additional cost, fair enough as involved speed boat). And was the only place we stayed (out of 9 places so far in Vietnam) where provision for tipping in addition to service charge on each docket you signed for - even Americans at resort were confused by that. A good breakfast selection but we felt the restaurants, especially for Western food, only average. We thought the local staff tried very hard and were very friendly, but perhaps senior management oversight or guidelines not good enough. A really annoying thing, and only place we encountered this, was the ridiculous amount of paperwork we had to complete, both prior our stay and even at the end - signing multiple times for bills already paid. They did have a very good book exchange. We chose Can Dao because interested in the history, but there are many other resorts on a beach in the world where you can get similar activities and better quality.

I was REALLY excited to visit Six Sense Con Dao. It looked like paradise in the literature I'd read. Sadly, my experience did not at all live up to the expectations. You arrive at the resort (after being greeted at the airport and whisked away in a car stocked with drinks and snacks) and get this big pitch about having your own "Guest Experience Manager (GEM)" who would take care of anything you needed -- arranging outings, scheduling massage appointments, etc. Our GEM was a nice enough guy and seemed to mean well, but the first response I got to any request (snorkeling, hiking) was, "No. That can't be done." After much negotiation back and forth, I got things sorted out (including the 10 minute discussion with the wait staff when I wanted to take a banana back to my friend who had skipped dinner and wasn't feeling well). It just seemed like SO much work to get anything arranged.

The snorkeling trip was WAY overpriced. With VAT and service fee roughly $100 for a four-hour snorkeling trip that only went to two places and with a guide who didn't provide any information about the sites or the local ecosystem or the fish that we saw. He didn't even go in at the second location. At those prices, we should have had someone who could talk about the coral bleaching (which was obvious) and could identify the fish we saw. Plus, the boat was not well configured for getting in and out with fins on. They had "stand up paddle board" on the schedule only one day the week we were there. I assumed since it was on the daily schedule at a specific time, it was a lesson. It wasn't. The beach attendant simply hadn't you a paddle and a board and you were on your own, so I really don't understand why it was written on the schedule at a specific time.

The housekeeping was inconsistent. Some days they would fully restock water and towels and other days they wouldn't. Different staff would do different things with turn down service. The rooms themselves were stark and not at all warm and inviting. Not a single photo on the walls. Only two hooks (and no closets) on the entire second floor to hang anything and no drawers or storage (except for the minibar area).

If you are looking to go to a pretty beach and literally do nothing for a few days except go to the spa (which was the highlight of the resort) and eat and drink expensive food, then this wouldn't be a bad choice. But if you actually want to do things, go elsewhere.

Dear DC_Mel_202
Thank you for your detailed review from which we are saddened to read of your disappointment and the shortfall of service in certain areas. As I wrote to your travelling companion, we are sorry you did not like the design of our 2 level duplex villas but understand the wood interiors without artwork is not to everyone’s taste. It was unfortunate that for part of your stay strong winds made boating activities impossible and then when the sea was suitable, regrettably, the snorkeling trip was not to the level you anticipated. Please accept my sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations in all areas.
Best Wishes
