We stayed in room 201 for 1 night. Everything about this place is perfect. Location, wooden architecture, delicious meals and lovely hosts. It was raining when we reached and our shoes were drenched after Kumano kodo. Our host quickly provided us with shoe dryer and hot tea. After we settled down we were shown around the property and our room. The place also has a washer dryer which might be useful. The onsen river flows right in front of the hotel and you could take a hot bath in the river, if you are not comfortable with that, there is a Japanese style onsen spa in the hotel to be used for free.

Dinner was delicious and Breakfast was sumptuous. We would definitely come here again!

Pension Ashitanomori is just a few steps away from the bus stop in and out of Kawayu Onsen. The onsen river is right in front of the Pension so it's very convenient to take a dip early in the morning or even at night if you would like to challenge walking in the dark. Ashitanomori is run by a lovely family. The father even walked us to the bus stop, waited until the bus came and told the driver where we were going. He wanted to make sure that we wouldn't get off at the wrong stop. So nice! The inside of the hotel is very clean. Our room, the shared washroom and the onsen bathroom are clean and well maintained. I like that we didn't have to share the onsen bathroom with other hotel guests while using it. You simply put the sign "occupied" at the bathroom door and then you can enjoy your onsen time on your own. This made the moment very enjoyable indeed. The dinner and breakfast were nice and reasonably priced. I enjoyed my breakfast with a great view of the onsen river. Highly recommend to anyone who plans to stay in Kawayu Onsen. I would definitely stay there again next time I go to Kawayu Onsen.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room facing the onsen river, the view is great!

We had an amazing stay at Ashita No Mori and would recommend to anyone! Highlights were the lovely family running the business who made us feel right and home and digging our own hot spring bath in the river!

We walked from Hongu for an hour to stay here, and it was worth every step. The father and son who run the place are so helpful. The location is beautiful, and, they provide spades so that you can dig your own onsen in the banks of the river. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
