Powderhorn is a charming place to stay, very clean, & well equipped, & Shelly was very pleasant and helpful.
The difficulty is the parking situation. You must park in the central lot in the village, & then hike up the hill to the lodge. So drop off your luggage first, park, & then walk back up the hill. Not the lodge's fault. It's a developer in the area, who's not yet got around to finishing a nearby parking area. Gorgeous area & do eat at Cafe Naranja in the Village.

My family and I spent Memorial Day weekend at the Powderhorn. A staff member called me to confirm our reservations and was able to answer all of my questions about late arrival, etc. The emailed instructions I received for our late arrival and check-in were very detailed, and we were able to let ourselves into our room. The room was well-furnished and clean with nice amenities (extra blankets, pillows, fireplace, dishwasher, microwave, stove, and toaster). It's a cozy, traditional ski-lodge with the rooms close together but we never had an issue with noise from the other guests (even though they had a full house). We visited the area to hike to Wheeler Peak and the Powderhorn was located near all of the trailheads we were interested in hiking. The ski village (food, shopping, etc) was a short walking distance away; we never had to drive anywhere. We will be staying at the Powderhorn the next time we visit Taos Ski Valley!
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are very pleased to hear that our staff made your stay pleasant, even before entering your reserved condo.
Also, thank you for giving us a perfect rating and a positive feedback!
We hope your next stay will be just around the corner - Call us if there is anything we can help you with.
The facility is a bit old but well maintained, on the small side. We stayed on the top floor with a good view facing the ski area. The onsite management is excellent because of Thom and Darin, who not only helped us loading and unloading, but also tried their best helping us staying as comfortably as possible. The first night we got there, the heat in our apartment did not work. Thom tried his best to have it resolved and credited us accordingly. Through our staying here for 6 days, we could always feel the kind and welcoming attitudes from Thom and Darin. If we have a chance to stay there again in the future, it will be because of Thom and Darin.
We just got back from a great 2 nite stay at the Powderhorn. Thom was a great host. He even called us to let us know where the check in pkg was as we were arriving late. The room, 301, was perfect. Great kitchen, TV and so comfortable bed. Loved the views as well. The howl of the coyotes in the evening only made for the perfect Western scene.! Even though it was raining Thom gave us a few great hikes right from the condo. While in Taos, its worth the drive to head to town and eat at Orlando's.
Thanx again Thom for making our trip a great experience. Shelly and Shelley
This is an older facility but it seems to be fairly well maintained. Thom at the front desk is great. The room we were in, 304, was a little warm at night (we there in the off season, Sept 2-3). We asked about AC and Thom said we don't have AC. We came back from our day and Thom had setup a fan in our room. Such a nice surprise. It is a decent place for the money and is clean.
