Booked a last minute 2 night break over Easter and was pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel was. The staff were chatty and friendly without exception. The amazing bar was proudly shown off by the barman who clearly enjoyed his work.
So many hotels in Scotland suffer from a rather apathetic attitude to their guests but not this one. Dinner was another revelation. We both were struck at how the dinner menu appeared to be quite innovative re. the starters but reverting to classic cuisine for the mains. But we needn't have worried as the classic main courses were cooked to perfection - not always easy for dishes like Beef Wellington. Reasonably priced wine list also available by the glass too but this was just a dress rehearsal for the tastings in the bar afterwards, With over 1,000 whiskies and over 200 gins it is a real experience just reading the huge drinks menu.
Breakfast was good quality and tasty. Only one quibble was the printed menu rather exaggerated the buffet available (cheeses and meats?) and the kitchen had no Arbroath smokies available which was a disappointment as I always like eating the local delicacy when on holiday.
In conclusion this was a total success and will be repeated. Thanks everyone for making us feel so welcome.More
