“Beautiful house, lovely relaxing weekend”
Reviewed 4 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

Really lovely house in a pretty place. Had everything available in the house, the hot tub was great, the house was amazing, owners very accommodating and helpful. We had a brilliant break and will definitely go back.

“The nicest holiday rental I've ever stayed in”
Reviewed 30 January 2013 for a stay in January 2013

Having been tasked with organising a friend's hen weekend in Essex, we quickly realised that there were very few nice properties for a large group of girls (7 of us stayed at the house in total). Luckily, we came across the Grain House and it was perfect. The house is immaculate, the facilities are great - the hot tub went down especially well! - and Pippa and Peter were very helpful, both before and during our stay. Peter actually came to greet us and check we were ok when we arrived, and they even left us a little welcoming gift of some chocolates. There is also a lot of info available about the surrounding area - which is great as none of us knew that part of the world at all. We ended up spending a lot of time at the house and it really made the weekend.

I have to say, we were a little taken aback at how many rules and notes there seemed to be about the house - one on almost every surface! - but we soon realised that you don't keep a property in such good condition without making sure that people are respectful of it.

Liked best: The overall standard and cleanliness. And the hot tub!!
Liked least: It's a bit out of the way, and no pub in walking distance.

We don't like making rules and regs, but one previous hen party has made us cautious.

“Amazing - a stunning cottage, beautifully finished.”
Reviewed 21 October 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Myself and a group of 7 girls stayed at The Grain Cottage in October for my friend's hen weekend. I honestly could not recommend it highly enough! Pippa was so helpful from my first enquiry because as there were a big group of us I was trying to organise various activities. I emailed Pippa asking various questions about the local area which she was very quick to respond to. Pippa had informed me she was away that weekend so would not be there to greet us but she did leave a lovely note and some homemade shortbread which was greatly appreciated by all of us! The cottage itself is beautiful and finished to a very high standard. The pictures on the website are good but the Grain House is even more stunning in real life. Everyone was thoroughly impressed with the accommodation and although there were 8 of us ladies (and all trying to get showered and ready the next day) the cottage was so spacious that we did not feel like we were on top of each other. The Grain House is fitted with everything you could think of and really is a home from home. It is immaculate and the attention to detail is extraordinary. We used the hot tub one evening which was great fun and Pippa had even thought of spare towels and crocs to be used for the purpose! It really was a shame we were only staying for 2 days as all of us commented that we could easily spend a week at the Grain House and not feel the need to go out, although the garden and surrounding areas are very tranquil. We didn't even get time to appreciate the "games room" in the barn which was a shame. Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were which is always a good sign! I would thoroughly recommend the Grain House to anyone and hope to return with family and friends for a longer stay in the future.

“Exceptionally decorated, spacious, comfortable, sensibly set out cottage that caters for young & old.”
Reviewed 21 October 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This property has been decorated to a very high standard and was well equipped in every room by the owners who live next door. The owner was very welcoming and approachable. They have covered all aspects of entertainment in the games room and the garden for young children & teenagers, even a hot tub & fishing for the grown-ups. The location is very central and the borders of two other counties are close by. A large supermarket was 10 minutes away from the cottage. The only small downsides was the busy road to the front of the property (though this was more noticable from the main lounge not the bedrooms) and the owners iron gate that was attached to the cottage that was noisy early in the morning and late at night. To confirm how lovely this cottage is I would recommend it to my friends & family as we had a lovely stay.

“An excellent property”
Reviewed 19 September 2012 for a stay in September 2012

What a pleasant place to stay, accommodation was first class and very well presented.
Everything you could wish for was to hand with a fully fitted kitchen and pantry, snug lounge areas and excellent bathrooms and bedrooms.Truly a first class property and we all throughly enjoyed our time relaxing in the ample garden and grounds. There's also a play barn with a snooker table, table tennis and darts board. Very highly recommended. A final bonus a nice hot tub. Easy access to many places of interest as well.
