Well this place is a eye opener. It all starts as you take the turn off the highway. The road in was full of large potholes which worried me that we were in the right place. After meeting the young lady at the reception she gave us the keys and pointed where to go. When we walked into our cabin it was like walking into a freezer, it was very cold, I tried to put the heater on but it wouldn’t work. I contacted reception and they sent a young bloke around and he finally got it working. I had asked for extra blankets in case it doesn’t get warm enough and he bought me a couple. Once the place was warm we cooked dinner the we bought of the reception as a frozen meal, it was ok and more than enough. We found we would like some bread for breakfast, I asked reception again and the young bloke brought us 4 slices and butter.
Next morning when we woke up, but not really slept well during the night we pulled the sheets of the bed and found a very tired and old bed, we think put there in 1933 when the place started.
We drove around the place the next day and were shocked at what was there and what isn’t there anymore. This place was a thriving town once that had it all.
Very interesting old history with this place. It was just another adventure on our Tassie trip.

Stayed over night with my wife it's a lovely spot and well maintained cabins are very cosy and warm excellent value for the money the only negatives one of the coffee cups had been used and put back in the cupboard and the tv was very small.

The caretakers are great, they are friendly and professional, the camping area is well maintained and the amenities were clean. Highly recommended the Highlander restaurant, great food and fantastic atmosphere.

I guess most guests are just passing by, as there is literally nothing. It's a quiet place for sure, so you will hardly hear anything except wildlife.

And most likely you will not have the burden of being connected to the internet, as there is no wifi available and reception only for some providers. So there you'll find the time to relax and wind up.

We stayed one night when passing by and really thought it's a nice place for one night. A cafe was available and still open (closes usually at 7:30 pm according to the sign) and we could grab some drinks and a sn

We had a cabin, which was totally sufficient. Clean bathroom, cozy bed and a small kitchen with a place to eat. Parking was available directly next to the cabin.

Apparently there are also some small hikes available, which we did not do. The national park is just like 40 minutes away, so if you want some hikes you can also go there (we did Shadow Lake there, recommendable).

So overall, a quiet and peaceful stay.

We arrived in Tarraleah expecting it to be just a pit stop between Hobart and Strachan, but got such a wonderful surprise to find that we were in the middle of an historic village.
1 man owns the entire town which consists of the lodge, the fully restored gorgeous 1930’s cottages, and all the cabins.
We stayed in Deer cottage, right up the back near the campers , and loved it as it was in a very peaceful spot. All we could hear was the varied bird life.
This community has a bar with delicious dinners, and a cafe for breakfast which was ample.
The walks around and behind the property were really spectacular. We saw lots of wildlife, and also found the hairy cows!
The whole hydro electricity story that comes with the town is fascinating - make sure you explore

What a wonderful haven to stay at.
The Gatehouse, next to The Lodge was a cute self contained apartment. Unit was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The only issue I had was that there was very poor water pressure.

I ate dinner at the hotel - best steak I have had in a long time.

I arrived late and booked through the hotel and as the reception does not open until 11am, I was unable to discuss the history of Tattaleah or peruse the shop area. Disappointing.
