The caretakers are great, they are friendly and professional, the camping area is well maintained and the amenities were clean. Highly recommended the Highlander restaurant, great food and fantastic atmosphere.

I guess most guests are just passing by, as there is literally nothing. It's a quiet place for sure, so you will hardly hear anything except wildlife.

And most likely you will not have the burden of being connected to the internet, as there is no wifi available and reception only for some providers. So there you'll find the time to relax and wind up.

We stayed one night when passing by and really thought it's a nice place for one night. A cafe was available and still open (closes usually at 7:30 pm according to the sign) and we could grab some drinks and a sn

We had a cabin, which was totally sufficient. Clean bathroom, cozy bed and a small kitchen with a place to eat. Parking was available directly next to the cabin.

Apparently there are also some small hikes available, which we did not do. The national park is just like 40 minutes away, so if you want some hikes you can also go there (we did Shadow Lake there, recommendable).

So overall, a quiet and peaceful stay.

We arrived in Tarraleah expecting it to be just a pit stop between Hobart and Strachan, but got such a wonderful surprise to find that we were in the middle of an historic village.
1 man owns the entire town which consists of the lodge, the fully restored gorgeous 1930’s cottages, and all the cabins.
We stayed in Deer cottage, right up the back near the campers , and loved it as it was in a very peaceful spot. All we could hear was the varied bird life.
This community has a bar with delicious dinners, and a cafe for breakfast which was ample.
The walks around and behind the property were really spectacular. We saw lots of wildlife, and also found the hairy cows!
The whole hydro electricity story that comes with the town is fascinating - make sure you explore

What a wonderful haven to stay at.
The Gatehouse, next to The Lodge was a cute self contained apartment. Unit was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The only issue I had was that there was very poor water pressure.

I ate dinner at the hotel - best steak I have had in a long time.

I arrived late and booked through the hotel and as the reception does not open until 11am, I was unable to discuss the history of Tattaleah or peruse the shop area. Disappointing.

If you want to experience some tranquility and serenity then this place is a must visit. We stayed two nights in a cottage. It was totally awesome, no phone, no wifi, no shops. The town has a pub that serves awesome meals and drinks, a cafe,. This is the place to unwind and relax. Do nothing but read and play games with the family. The cottages are spacious with a amenities and extras. Bathtub, washer, dryer, sun room. The town is steeped in history.
Add a visit to your next tassie trip you will not be disappointed.

Room tip: Cottages are clean with all needs met

We stayed in a small cabin. Good for 2 people. Reasonably priced with simple cooking facilities. Very small fridge. Serviced daily and beautifully decorated with comfortable bed and fresh linen.
For larger families, the self contained houses are amazing. Great cafe and restaurant on site. No shops or general store though.
