Such a pleasant suprise

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Feb 2019via mobile
We arrived in Tarraleah expecting it to be just a pit stop between Hobart and Strachan, but got such a wonderful surprise to find that we were in the middle of an historic village.
1 man owns the entire town which consists of the lodge, the fully restored gorgeous 1930’s cottages, and all the cabins.
We stayed in Deer cottage, right up the back near the campers , and loved it as it was in a very peaceful spot. All we could hear was the varied bird life.
This community has a bar with delicious dinners, and a cafe for breakfast which was ample.
The walks around and behind the property were really spectacular. We saw lots of wildlife, and also found the hairy cows!
The whole hydro electricity story that comes with the town is fascinating - make sure you explore

What a wonderful haven to stay at.
The Gatehouse, next to The Lodge was a cute self contained apartment. Unit was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The only issue I had was that there was very poor water pressure.

I ate dinner at the hotel - best steak I have had in a long time.

I arrived late and booked through the hotel and as the reception does not open until 11am, I was unable to discuss the history of Tattaleah or peruse the shop area. Disappointing.

If you want to experience some tranquility and serenity then this place is a must visit. We stayed two nights in a cottage. It was totally awesome, no phone, no wifi, no shops. The town has a pub that serves awesome meals and drinks, a cafe,. This is the place to unwind and relax. Do nothing but read and play games with the family. The cottages are spacious with a amenities and extras. Bathtub, washer, dryer, sun room. The town is steeped in history.
Add a visit to your next tassie trip you will not be disappointed.

Room tip: Cottages are clean with all needs met

We stayed in a small cabin. Good for 2 people. Reasonably priced with simple cooking facilities. Very small fridge. Serviced daily and beautifully decorated with comfortable bed and fresh linen.
For larger families, the self contained houses are amazing. Great cafe and restaurant on site. No shops or general store though.

We stayed in the schoolhouse and our room was fine for a couple with a bonus mezzanine loft lounge area. The schoolhouse had communal kitchen. Property was well run with friendly informative check in, the restaurant was nice for dinner (not earth shattering premium but adequate). The cafe staff the next morning were a bit overwhelmed when the place was only half full and the service staff werent confident. Menu was limited. Otherwise, the quoll walk was nice and the hydro display history was interesting. The whole site has been done up well, the cottages and main hotel looked lovely.

We booked a caravan powered site for 1 night and this place is lovely.
Free to choose where to park our caravan and we chose near the toilet where the patch is nice and green.
There is a electric bbq pavilion but was not well maintained. The washer & dryer is coin operated .

Reception area there is a souvenir shop selling some in house cider and beer. You can also find lollies, magnets and leather bags. There is a restuarant at this place and nice cottages.

This place is near the hydroelectric power plant.
