We stayed here for 2 nights.

Room
We booked a superior room the bathroom was really nice loved the tv in the bath and the views from the balcony were stunning! The rooms decor was dated.

Spa
The Spa was good especially the outdoor hot tub. However the actual spa was cold, the swimming pool was cold and the indoor hot tub was cold so you had to go to the outside hot tub to keep warm.

Food
We had breakfast both days - the continental selectional was pretty poor not much choice, however the cooked breakfast menu had lots of options to choose from.
We also ate in the Courtyard bar the food was delicious and a good atmosphere.

Staff
All staff were really friendly and polite and could not do enough for you.

The atmosphere in the hotel wasnt great, far too formal making us feel like we couldnt be ourselves and only offering sherry as a complimentary drink on arrival was strange any soft drinks or a drink for someone under the age of 70 would be great. The place just needs to chill out a bit and it would be a much nicer place to stay.

This is a great hotel which is a cross between a stately home and a modern hotel with all the facilities. The spa area is first class with a large outdoor jacuzzi. We were looked after really well by Patsy and Rytis and enjoyed fantastic food, particularly from pastry chef Kate. George was attentive and Marian made us a couple of great cocktails.

Overall a fantastic experience. A hotel with great facilities, great food and great staff overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake in between Keswick and Cockermouth.

Stayed for 1 night DBB on Travelzoo deal and I have to say this was excellent value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beautiful old building, full of character with lots of interesting artefacts and nooks and crannies. Loved the striking decor in the bar which looks newly re furbished and is a modern contrast to the appropriately traditional decor elsewhere. Room was small but with some nice touches such as TV in bathroom and comfy robes and slippers. The highlight of our stay was the spa, however. Excellent facilities with large outdoor jacuzzi, thermal suite and solarium with comfy loungers, soft music and magazines - perfect after a long flight back from Cuba the night before.
Dinner was also excellent - paid a little extra for rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked. Interesting starters , good dessert and very generous cheeseboard. Dining room is very hushed, despite soft background music and feels a bit formal though, and although not busy, guests were placed at adjacent tables which made it slightly awkward as could overhear everyone's conversations.
Breakfast was cooked to order and again excellent quality ( no beans though).
Service was unobtrusive but consistently good. Overall, I would say this is a very good 4 star hotel. Well worth what we paid, We enjoyed our visit and we hope to go back.

Just a truly fabulous place you must visit!!!! The hotel and staff are amazing. The spa facilities are gorgeous. Alex in the bar is amazing and such a friendly member of staff. He took the time to talk to my 6 year old daughter and make her feel involved. They set up the piano. Video hopefully to follow of people we met. Xxx

This was our second visit and the second time using the Hartley Tower Suite. The room was again excellent, comfortable, clean and well maintained. We took our 7 month old son and the staff ensured that we could enjoy dinner in the restaurant with a quiet table and high chair.

The food in the Lake View restaurant was superb and the staff worked hard to ensure that our visit was superb from start to finish. A highly recommended venue
