This place is amazing. It's beautiful and private, basically on top of the mountain! A gorgeous view of Puerto Rico from the El Yunque forest-theres a wrap around balcony and hammocks to enjoy the view. I woke up briefly around 5 or 6am and could hear a variety of wildlife waking up and singing/chirping. Not enough to wake you/keep you up but very interesting to hear! Parroco and his parents did everything they could to make us comfortable, and we were very, very comfortable. It felt like home away from home! Not only did they provide us with fresh fruit from around their property and other food when we arrived too late to grocery shop, but they provide fantastic company. Parroco is a tour guide and gave us tours and showed us to places we could hike/etc (but it rained so we didnt) and was very willing to give us the best experience he could while we were in Puerto Rico! I highly recommend this retreat-there were only 5 of us but it can sleep way more than that.
This is a very special place. Know what you're looking for when you choose it. If you want a "resort" experience with room service and loud parties, this retreat is NOT for you. If you want to truly unplug, breathe jungle floral air, meet others in a shared living/dining space, shower in a rustic solar showers, and meditate in inspired gardens and houses...well, you've found your spot! The Elemental Eco Retreat is like an up-scale pensione for adults. I stayed in the Air house which is beautifully appointed with a large beds, local art, and a comfortable furniture (great place to rest after exploring the island) But the best part is the view...ocean in the distance, jungle, and sky. Ok, actually the best part is the scent; yes, really. The flowers and rainforest air create a perfume that I'll never forget. And wonderful beaches are a short drive away. A 20-minute (harrowingly beautiful!) drive leads you to Playa Luquillo, with perhaps the coolest beach I've ever seen and awesome kioskos... Worth it!
I had a great stay! The Bungalow provided the privacy and nature I needed. Pa' and his parents were very accommodating. They truly love the land and have great vision for the property. I particularly enjoyed harvesting, preparing and the eating of the coconuts, papayas, bananas, plantains, and avacodos from the land. And the sounds of tree frogs at night were amazing!
