Thank you Heather, for your review; it was a great delight to be of service to you both. We hope to see you again!
Thank you, Marilyn, for the delicious homemade goodies and your friendly hospitality!
Lychgate Cottage has everything you might need for your first breakfasts and it is only a few steps from the High St for good pubs with restaurants, a butcher's, excellent greengrocer's and delectable bakery. Henfield has numerous small twittens for exploring between streets and also a broad cycle/walking track along the old railway line, through misty fields and woods by a river. Even in mid-winter the surroundings were attractive and the cottage warm. We enjoyed the churchyard through the back gate and the carol service!
Thank you for the review,We are very happy you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to seeing you again.
We were greeted by Marilyn on arrival to the cottage ...it's a a real home from home cottage and we were delighted ...she had left us a number of grocery's including homemade cookies jams and cheese and chutney which were absolutely tasty .both Marilyn and Anthony are very kind helpful happy people very informative of Henfield and surrounding places to visit , we would absolutely recommend this delightful cottage and would go again didn't want to leave ...Brighton expensive to park car .
This is a clean and comfortable cottage with everything one could need, including a most generous welcome package. There is a pretty, secluded patio outside the kitchen door for some sunshine and a relaxing drink. Owners most helpful but not in any way intrusive. Altogether, a very pleasant stay at Lychgate Cottage.
Easy enough to find tucked away along a quiet road just a few hundred yards from Henfield High Street.
Greeted by the owner who was simply delightful who gave us a guided tour letting us know all the salient facts. Extremely helpful and a lovely touch as a lot of times you are left to find things out for yourself. We were overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the owners who had provided all sorts of goodies - all top class Deli standard by the way - including Apple juice, butter, bread, milk, cheese, marmalade, jam, eggs. cereals, tea etc etc PLUS a smashing bowl of fruit. In the bathroom were other surprises such as shampoo, shower gel and soap. Everything more than perfect.
The actual cottage was a dream - well planned kitchen with every appliance you could ever want (plus the tablets and washing stuff needed) and the added extra of being able to open the door onto the private patio. Romantically bijou!! All kitchen items (cutlery, cooker, surfaces) sparkled in the sunshine and were fantastic.
The sitting/dining room is beautifully presented with lovely comfy sofa situated bang in front of a great telly which even we could operate without any trouble. All units very comptemporary and again filled with goodies - books and puzzles and DVDs - including place mats for the well polished table and sparkling glasses for drinks.
The bedroom was of similar high standard with a super comfy bed and loads of storage space either side. Blinds and drapes in all rooms ensured a virtual blackout at night and thus ensured the perfect night's sleep.
The bathroom was equally lovely - towels fluffy as you like and everything clean and bright. Bath looked great but we stuck with the separate power shower - marvellous. Toilet and basin also sparkling clean.
The path from the private patio through the owners' garden leads to a gate to the Churchtard where we spent a quiet hour wandering around - just splendid - also gives access to the High Street in 2 directions. The Yew trees had recently been pruned so walking along a Yew lined path was like stepping back in time.
Henfield is a lovely little town and has everything you might wany to purchase food wise plus other shops to browse. By the way the Chinese is ab fab - freshly cooked and hot ( not the usual luke warm) upon collection and was really delicious and under 5 mins walk from the cottage. Good wine shop too and the wine selection at the Budgens actually surpassed them.
So...would I return ? yes yes yes - same time next year god willing.
Hidden litltle treasure for sure.
