Review of WestJet

Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The flight from St. John,s via a stay over in Toronto was very pleasant. Seats were comfortable and flight attendants were were great on both flights.. Will definitely fly with West-jet again.

We booked Premium Econony seats for the trip to Puerto Vallarta from Vancouver and also for the return flight. There is little to support the adjective "premium" with regards to the seating other than good leg room. The seats are very narrow, as in economy, except that the middle seat is blocked off resulting in an asile and window seat arrangement. The service provided by the Purser on the flight to Puerto Vallarta was very good. The food itself is regular economy food. If you would like alcoholic beverages, this was almost constantly available. The Purser also controlled the flow of people from the economy zone who desired to use the forward toilet, asking them to remain in the isle beyond the "Premium" zone, and only advancing one at a time when the toilet was vacant. Hence, providing something of a premium comfort for those who pay extra for this seating. Occasionally, people tended to crowd the Premium zone such that their conversations intefered with those who were trying to sleep. On the rerturn flight, the Purser provided good service up until the end of dinner. Then she basically "disappeared". I observed her sitting on the front jump seat for over an hour looking at her smart phone and eating. Later, she disappeared altogether from the front of the plane, and did not return until about 5 minutes before the Captain announced the the flight was commencing its descent. She returned with a flurry of activity picking up garbage, seemingly trying to eat her left over food from earlier, putting on her make-up including a good dose of perfume, and then sitting down again with another flight attendant, with both looking at their phones. In her absence, people constantly crowded the "Premium" zone while waiting to use the forward toilet. We had the bulkhead seats on the starboard side of the aircraft, and we were constantly having to move our legs because people crowded into our private space as though this was for their use. I finally mentioned to one passenger that this area was not for their standing and waiting. In return, I got an angry reply of, "Get over yourself!" BTW, there is no priority check in on the return flight from Puerto Vallarta. I would not pay for "Premium" seats on a West Jet flight again, and I will probably not fly on West Jet again.

I fly often on Westjet and am usually very satisfied, but the food both there and back was disgusting and inedible in premium economy. I was shocked at the poor quality. On my last flight in December from the UK, the food was quite fine so this was a real disappointment. Westjet needs to fire their caterer and start again. Everyone around me felt the same way and in the end it was a huge waste. Shame on Westjet, normally an excellent airline.

Cheap, affordable flights. No free meals on board but plenty of drinks. Full duty free service. Some planes have in seat entertainment - others don't. For short transatlantic flights at a very cheap price (half the price of the National Airlines) you can't go wrong. Easy check in. Pay for you luggage at the airport.

We recently returned from a trip to new Orleans. It was a long flight there with a lot is stops but was ok. WS doesn’t fly to new Orleans so the leg from LAX to New Orleans was delta. On the way there, our luggage was checked free of charge on our WestJet MAsterCard. On our return, Delta charged us $30 USD per piece. We were told by the gate attendant from west jet that we should pay with our MasterCard and we would be reimbursed but for now, we had to follow the luggage allowance for Delta. On returning home, we are told that’s not the case and that we have to pay it due to being a partner airline. So beware of percs offered with the MasterCard as they only apply if their partners are where you are checking in.
