“Another good flight”
Review of Virgin Atlantic Airways

Reviewed 16 January 2018

Our third long haul flight within 3 weeks on Virgin and again the check in was good and the staff helpful. Food in economy not so good but edible. I did request a special meal but this was not forthcoming. However we have flown with this airline since this particular flight so they very good and will fly with them again.

Check in very good and staff helpful. Take off was on time and the captain informative. Economy a bit cramped even though my wife and I are not tall. We flew Johannesburg to London Heathrow and then LHR to Miami. Both flights were reasonably smooth and landed on time so connections were not a problem. Would fly with them again.

Flew round-trip from SFO to London with Virgin, and after several trip with other airlines, I am spoiled. Internationally, Virgin Atlantic seems to be the only airline where Premium Economy actually means something without paying thousands more. You have a dedicated restroom, dedicated flight attendants, food severed on real plates with real silverware, and comfortable seating with entertainment. The flight out was on an older airbus, and the only complaint was the entertainment system was older and the LCD screen was slightly blurry. The staff were great and brought drinks and food around every hour or so. Especially like the snack bar where you can just wander up and grab a snack. Plenty of room in the overhead compartments and we were able to find space right above our seats.

Flew on the dreamliner on the way back, and it was much better as far as quality, with everything being new, it was more comfortable and on this trip, the LCD screen was crystal clear. Boarding at Heathrow is a bit of a mess (due to construction I believe), and you are shuttled on a bus from the terminal to the plane on the tarmac, and there's no orderly boarding where you board by class of service. That was a bit dismaying, but it seems Virgin was doing what they could to accommodate passengers despite the airport construction. Flight was very comfortable and service was good.

My husband and I flew out with Virgin Atlantic on 5th December from Manchester to Orlando and returned January 10th. We have now retired and decided to upgrade all fights we make to treat ourselves. So this was the first upgrade to Premium economy we have taken to date and therefore don't have any other experience to compare it with but we were really happy with Virgin Atlantic. The cabin crew were exceptional, so polite and helpful. We were upstairs in the bubble at the front. I was a little concerned about being close to the toilets in case we were blocked in with people in the queue to use to toilet but we needn't have worried as it didn't happen. It was nice and quiet up there....we took a walk around downstairs and it was noticeably noisier so we were so happy we booked upstairs. The food was very good outbound, we both chose the Beef bourguignon Inbound was good but not quite as good as the outbound because the beef was a little dry(we had wild mushroom beef screw)The rest of the meal was lovely. The seats were comfortable and wide with plenty of leg room and a foot rest which really added to the comfort. You get priority check in at Manchester and Orlando....and also a fast track through the security checks at Orlando airport which saved us loads of time. Ohh and there's the 2 pieces of luggage allowance for each of us...Loved that. So glad we treated ourselves and won't be traveling any other way now.
