“What's happened to United?”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed 23 September 2017

Crew was professional & good. Allow 1 checked bag. United only provided pretzels. Charge for any other food. Advertise "wifi", but ONLY if you pay!! Can't even watch TV or listen to music. AV controls are on elbow rest, causing channels/ volume to frequently changed. Poor design. Worst of all had to wait 46 minutes for our luggage at BDL. Not my choice any more.

Do not make the mistake of thinking you got the best deal because you secured a cheap fare. United's new "Basic Economy" is the lowest fare, but wait there's more.............you do not get to select a seat, in fact you can't even request to be seated next to a travel companion. You will both probably be put into middle seats on these jam packed flights. And to top it off, rows 21 or higher do not have usb charging ports for your phone or other electronics. The biggest insult though, is that they have new TV's for each seat and it appears that you will be able to use it, there are as many channels to select from as what I have at home but the only problem is they don't tell you that you have to play to view. I feel so ripped off by this airline, they do not try to accommodate you at all.

We just had the trip from hell on United. I'm not sure what's happened to this airline, but it continues to slide downhill at an accelerating rate. We had three legs going each direction since we were departing from a small town and flying to another small town across the country. The first two legs, all was fine. From Newark to Burlington, everything fell apart. After hours of delays, flying us to Burlington and not being able to land, so returning us back to Newark to sleep on the airport floor for the night, the trip continued to be pretty terrible. Each leg had delays, hours spent on the tarmac waiting for maintenance, and then air traffic control to release use. We ended up missing one entire day of our trip, one night of our hotel, a night on the floor in the airport (which isn't as glamorous as it might sound), terrible customer service, and being charged extra fees to change our flight to make our connections. What a terrible airline. I'm sticking with Alaska Air from now on, at least when things do go wrong, their employees act like they care that your life has been negatively impacted.

What started out to be the beginning of a two week vacation with friends to Europe, turned into a hectic, tiresome, and long 15 hour ordeal. Before leaving Louisville, we had a delay because our departure flight had a flat tire. Granted this was good to know before we took off, the repair was just the beginning of more problems to come. After finally having a delay boarding, we sat on the plane and were delayed further. Many were asking questions and concerned because we had already missed a connecting flight from DC to Barcelona and now we were waiting again with unanswered questions and no communication from crew. The crew acted annoyed we were asking about our leaving, connections, and what was happening. We finally were told we had a second flat tire and that we would not know what to do to make connections until we arrived in DC. Obviously, we now were not going to make a second connecting flight and worried about a third connection to Barcelona.
Upon arriving in DC, there was a mad dash by all to try and get to an attendant to help us see what was available to fly to Barcelona. There were only two attendants available to ask and answer questions for an entire plane full of travelers. After long lines and frustrations with hearing there were no more flights for the evening to Barcelona, we were being rerouted to Frankfurt Germany and then to Barcelona. Due to the several missed connections and rerouting, we missed an entire day of our trip waiting for flights and traveling. Needless to say, we were exhausted emotionally and physically from this ordeal. The disappointment lies not so much in the mechanical unfortunate happenings, safety was definitely important, but the lack of communication by staff and crew to inform travelers what was happening before, during, and after the flight. Very little if any information was provided without passengers asking and seeking out information and solutions. Unfortunate yes but the sequence of events could have been less stressful had the staff and crew been more diligent in their communication. The flight itself was fine.

Absolutely brilliant airline could not be more helpful if they tried, we missed our flights but they got us on another flight 2 hours later at no extra cost. Cannot fault them. They have received a lot of bad press, but they do not deserve it.
