“Never again, not even if it was to be the only option”
Review of Thai Airways

Reviewed 27 January 2025

I booked my flight home from Manila to Paris for over €1,000 in economy class with Thai Airways, and it was a nightmare.
First, the flight was delayed for more than five hours in Manila. It was supposed to depart at 7:00 PM, but I wasn’t moved to another flight until 12:45 AM. I was eventually rebooked onto a Qatar Airways flight, as staying with Thai Airways would have meant spending an additional day at the airport. On the Qatar Airways flight, I was given a middle seat that was extremely narrow and positioned in front of an air conditioning unit—absolutely horrible. The €1,000 I had paid for my Thai Airways seat and its supposed perks was completely wasted.

After a layover in Doha, we finally arrived in Paris more than seven hours late, causing me to miss my bullet train to the south of France, which cost another €300.

I hoped to receive some form of compensation from Thai Airways for this entire ordeal, but I got absolutely nothing. My complaints were ignored, and when I did get a response, it was dismissive and unprofessional.

While I’ve flown with Thai Airways several times within Thailand and had great experiences, their international service is far below standard. The customer service, pricing, and management are terrible—flights are almost always delayed, and there’s no accountability for the damages caused. This experience was a nightmare: nearly a two-day journey, almost €2,000 wasted and not even for bussines. Absolutely not recommended, will not even fly them within Thailand anymore, one customer lost for ever.

On January 16 2025 my daughter was denied boarding on a connecting flight due to missing data on boarding pass. Flight TG9024/TK1991. First she had a six hour layover at Istanbul airport. At the gate when scanning her boarding pass before entering the plane the staff told her that they could not see her ticket on their system. After scanning it multiple times they ultimately told her to go to a Turkish airlines desk as they could not allow her to enter the plane. There they told her to find a transfer desk for Thai airlines. The man there said that he could see her name but some ticket number was missing and that it was the fault of the agent where the ticket was bought. However agent Trip.com insist that everything was in place. Her ticket was paid for and she was at the gate with plenty of time before its closing so there was not error on her part. In the end Thai airways told us that my daughter didn't show up for the flight🙈 Noone help no thai airwais no trip.com . We had to spend lots of money for a hotel and for a new ticket.
So I don’t recommend #thaiairways and #tripcom

Prefer full service, non stop flights to cities like Bangkok. Thai Airways has often been my choice in past years as a member of Star Alliance. Royal Orchid membership and opportunity to earn loyalty points has little meaning these days for basic economy flyers. Booked online, though had some issues with the web site and was too complicated to reinitiate my membership after emailing them.

Flight TG 472 to BKK from Sydney, TG 471 return flight. Both flights quite standard, streamlined, somewhat mechanical service without the past personal touches. Probably gone the same way as other airlines, obvious fitting in as many passengers as possible in Economy and reducing services to cut costs. Gone is the warm face washer, welcome drink with nuts and even less regular (if any) walks down the isle with cups of water/juice/soft drink. Still two meals on this route but trays seem smaller, and no offers of drink refills. On one flight the service appeared better on one aisle, with the other aisle missing out on one of the food items being handed out separate to the tray (seemed they just forgot us). Feels very much a process of feeding the masses and getting them down to sleep. Cabin environment and processes are very controlled. All quite obvious.

Screen and selection of entertainment was fine, though less interesting movies for me. Also hard to enjoy when the seat in front reclines in these closely fitted cabins. Can track your journal on the screen and watch the live camera views.

Overall not a bad flight but not exceptional. Lost some of its small but nice touches. Don't expect cabin crew to dress in traditional uniform and hand out pink and white orchids to ladies on disembarkment like in earlier times, but would appreciate a bit friendly service and some water without having to ask for it. Can feel a bit dehydrated waiting for one of the meal drinks to arrive. Miss the old Thai Airways music which always evoked nice memories.

The above points are minor and I realise how lucky am to take such a flight for a holiday. Just putting it out there. Happy flying.

Honestly, Thai Airways is not what they once were. Mistreated and disrespected by their lazy ground and flight attendant teams worse than usual on our most recent flight TG910 from Bangkok to London Heathrow on 26 Jan.

We paid an additional 1500 baht per person for specific seats on the exit row, but were disappointed to find our seats were broken; seat 33J's infotainment system was broken and 33K had a broken physical arm, rendering it unsuable.

The head flight attendant was extremely rude and refused to acknowledge that we had paid extra for our seats at the front desk during check-in, whilst also refusing to offer us viable alternatives (that didn't involve separation and less sacrificing leg room, which we paid extra for). Even when I showed the head flight attendant the receipts, she insisted that they were "for a different flight" and that she "checked with ground staff" and there was "no record of additional payment". This was obviously a lie, or a serious problem with Thai Airways' internal systems.

Oh, and our flight was delayed by over 90 minutes. That's normal for them also. Generally, all the flufht attendants on this flight were rude and disinterested with aloof and curt attitudes.

In any case, we were left with no option other than to remain in broken seats that we paid extra for.

I'd suggest choosing another airline, even if it means a stopover somewhere, or paying a little extra. Avoid them.
