Very easy flight with very helpful staff, the plane was clean and recently refurbished which was nice. Entertainment system had a decent selection, not as recent or current than Emirates but still enough for anyone to find something to watch. Food was average and nothing worth talking about. I dont fly for the food but rather getting to a destination as all of us are. They did assist us with boarding first as we did have an infant and really quick to deliver the pram after we arrived at our destination.

Overall it was a good experience.

We like flying South African Airways as we are Star Alliance gold members. We were disappointed when we booked an SAA flight to George that none of our Star Alliance Gold privileges applied to the code share Mango flight. This was the whole reason for booking on SAA and not one of the cheaper airlines was that we wanted the extra weight allowance for our suitcases that the Star Alliance privilege would give us. Unfortunately even though you book SAA, the flight is actually Mango and their rules apply. This also means no access to the SAA lounge. We flew with golf clubs and when you book on SAA, because of the code share you cant add extra luggage pieces to the online check in on Mango. (If you book direct with Mango you can). This means that we had to check in at Mango, go to another counter to pay the overweight on the luggage and then come back to the Mango check in again.
It seems like the process just needs to be reviewed and fixed otherwise people should just book directly with Mango as there are no benefits to booking with SAA for Star Alliance customers.

Absolutely shocking airline no after sales service
Delayed for 26 hours. They have not to date returned any email from Custoer service and no compensation offered.
Try not to fly this airline. Aircraft was filthy and basin was blocked in the bathroom onboard. Certainly not good enough.

Horrible airline. I have never flown with this many restrictions before. No under seat luggage. Blankets and pillows cannot be worn or used during take off or landing and once again cannot be placed on the floor under the seat in front of you. The seats cannot be booked in advance which is a big deal for my husband and I. He is very tall and literally cannot fit in regular seats. So we have to book bulk head or exit row in advance. The seats were the most uncomfortable airplane seats I have ever sat in. Will never fly with them again.

We were skeptical when we learned that our return flight from Frankfurt was on an SAA fllght, but we were nicely surprised with the good service we received.
I am not sure if the good experience was directly related to the excellent guidance of the head steward in charge, or was it due to a new strategy to improve service on board all SAA flights. We could immediately tell that the person in charge was experienced, professional, organised and very efficient.
The food was also very good. Tasty and well prepared (for airline food). The serving of food and drinks were quick.
We hope this continues - we would like to be proud of SAA again.
