“Don’t fly to Joburg from Washington via Dakar”

I knew this was going to be a long, hard flight - 7+ hours to Dakar, Senegal, an hour or so in Dakar, 8-odd hours to Johannesburg - but it was made longer and harder by an overlong stop in Dakar, and the discovery after take off that they had not serviced the toilet I chose to use, which was frankly swimming in urine. After cleaning it up myself I managed to use it, only later to get one o the most unimaginative meals I have ever had on a plane. Dry, tasteless and boring about begins to describe it!

I think I’ll fly Lufthansa via Frankfurt or KLM via Amsterdam next time, even though it takes longer.

Capetown to Johannesburg in business class. The seats were good but that’s all. First business class flight I’ve taken that you weren’t offered a drink prior to take off. The meal was a wrap and a cupcake. Wasn’t impressed.

The flight was good for 4 hours, average leg space. They serve a meal and there is an entertainment system although the sound on mine did not work properly and many other passengers had issues with the system.

Simple plane, simple flight, simple service. Nothing to write home about - got home safely. Travelled with 2 small dogs in the hold.

Fly with South African Airways a lot and normally find them helpful and fairly stress free. However, this time the food was absolutely dreadful. Whilst we normally dont expect gourmet offerings, this was mostly inedible. Pity that standards have dropped so much
