We left Boston Logan airport about 930 at night and at 3:30 Boston time we landed in the Azores Portugal. We had to take our hand luggage plus carry-ons off the plane down the steps into the terminal & wait while they cleaned the plane and then reload again about 45 minutes later. When we left Lisbon to return to Boston, we also stopped in the Azores. This time they checked our passports three times within about 12 feet. Again we had to remove all of our personal belongings from the plane but this time we had to wait about an hour and a half in the terminal before we are allowed to reboard. I don’t understand why this has to be done. It is an inconvenience. It’s also difficult to take carry-on suitcases down the steps and back up again. And nobody could explain why they do it. Other than that it was a typical overseas flight.
