Review of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

This was the first of three consecutive flights from Aberdeen to Sydney via Amsterdam and Abu Dhabi, with KLM and Etihad on a code share. Normally there is no point in flying business class on any airline within Europe, as most of the flights are too short to offer any real benefit. But I was in business class as the rest of my flights were also in C-class. In fact, just three of us had the undivided attention of the purser for the 70 minute flight.

This is an 06.00 departure so a cold breakfast - yoghurt, cold meats and cheese and warm rolls - were served, and newspapers were available. That's it. The 737-700 was barely up to cruising altitude of 40,000 feet and it was descending towards Schiphol. But being one of a select small group, being called by name, and having an interest shown by the purser in my overall itinerary all helped make me feel 'special'. What more could one want?

Teesside is a small local airport so check in there is no hassle. We took off, got cakes and a free drink and landed; all within 55 minutes. What a breeze - and no-one tried to sell us stuff. All this for £99 per head return.

The return flight was just as simple, even though we couldn't print off our boarding passes, it was simple just scanning the codes off a smartphone screen.

It was my first time to fly with KLM and I was positivly surprised for their good service and the overall positive flight experience. It was definitly not my last time to fly with them.

First time flying with KLM but hopefully will not be the last. Comfortable seats, good food, good entertainment system and excellent staff. This is one of the best airlines that I have ever flown with.

We flew back from Lyon, Frace, on Friday, having spent 7 days on a river cruise up the Rhone from Arles. The cruise company got us to the airport in good time, and we checked in. The problem was, the plane was half an hour late arriving. This meant we were late arriving in Amserdam. We then had to rush from one end of the airport to the other to catch our onward flight. When we got to Leeds Bradford we found that our luggage was not on the plane. Fortunately we got our suitcases back on Sunday. This is the first time we had flown KLM, but, talking to friends who frequently use them, this is a common problem. Someone else on our flight checked in three hours before her flight and her luggage also did not arrive.
